Are battery savers worth it?

I've just got my shiny new HTC One M8, and am very happy with it. I think the battery life is pretty good considering everything it has to regulate, but is it worth installing an app like DU Battery Saver or are they generally ineffective/more trouble than they're worth?

From my experience, 'battery savers' do worse to the battery life than running the device without them. They're definitely a waste of time and battery life for me.

Nah, the power saving modes in the 'One (m8)' are really all you need. Battery saving applications are mainly bloatware and will do more harm then good.

Short answer. No. Longer answer. All they do is redistribute the power I find. So whatever hours you get the first 50% of battery you will get less than half that the next 50%. Without battery saving apps the discharge is more even over the entire cycle. My observation.

Battery savers that function as task managers (I.e. switching Wi-Fi on/off, limiting background processing, etc) are ok and may help. The ones to avoid for sure are task killers, a.k.a. memory optimizers and boosters. Those work against Android and increase battery use.

+1 on Greenify. If you're not rooted (like me) you can go into the experimental mode and select the automated hibernation once you've selected the apps you want to hibernate. I was like many on here who think battery savers are waste of time until I installed this app. It works great for me.

Greenify sucks on an non rooted phone. It actually hurts battery life. It also doesn't work if you have locked security screen enabled. So you have to disable it.

You'll just have to try it for a while and see for yourself. I like it, others don't... that's why there's thousands of apps out there cause not everyone likes the same ones.
