Are there any apps or software that can manage my music, pictures and videos available?

Re: HTC One and Mac: what a pain!

I must be missing something. HTC does not give out the phones for free. I had to pay ?530 for the privilege of having an HTC One M8. Most advertisements, which I saw and convinced me to buy this phone, related to how great the content and media is on such a big screen. I was VERY disappointed to find out that after paying all this money, I am only able to have a limited use of the product because HTC has completely failed with its Mac software. In my view, if the software was not ready, they should have not released this handset. I tried getting help from their customer support and also spent countless hours following every silly suggestion they made. Nothing has worked and it is very clear that the sole problem is their software and the fact that they have disabled the phone from being recognised by a mac as an external drive. I find HTC's behaviour highly irresponsible and illegal. If they were in any other kind of industry, selling suboptimal products and charging hefty prices would have resulted in massive recalls and refunds. Yet they even refuse to recognise the problem. Having spoken to their customer support you can see that they are trained to brush you off. They ask all sort of irrelevant info and then instead of suggesting something, they said, we'll pass it on to our development team. I mean...what does that do for me?! I still can't use the handset. I asked for them to either solve the problem or give me a refund, they said no. I have given them a few more days to resolve my problem and if they fail to do so I plan to file a small claims court case against them and force them to recognise the problem publicly and give me a refund. It is very wrong to take people's money and then hide behind vague answers. I plan to go back to my iPhone, have used it since 2007 and NEVER had these issues. Granted, I will have a smaller screen and a bit less freedom in what software to use, but at least I won't be spending my days trying to convince them that their products should work. We all do have better things to do with our lives rather than forking out big piles of cash and then beg irresponsible companies to actually honour their obligations. If anybody else is having the same issue and is interested to sue HTC, you can do it by paying ?40 (which is refundable if the case is won) by going to the below link. This will force HTC to spend thousands of pounds to defend themselves and thus focus their attention on solving the problem. Due to the nature of the small claims court each side is responsible for their own expenses.

HTC's UK address (you need that to file the claim) is: HTC Europe Limited, Wellington Street, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 1YP, UK. Telephone: 01753 218 960

Re: HTC One and Mac: what a pain!

This really isn't an HTC issue, it is what Google has been requesting. The device uses an MTP file system or at least presents itself that way when plugged into a USB port. If someone were to write an OS X file system extension so that it could read MTP everything would be fine. Also, you can always just use the SD card since you said you have the M8.

Re: HTC One and Mac: what a pain!

This is an OUTRAGE.

I can not believe that my HTC One still won't connect with My MacBook Pro Retina 2013 (OSX 10.9.4).

As the OP said, the HTC Sync Manager is embarrassingly awful. Really, it's just RUBBISH – how could a company allow that to be released? (and continue to not be fixed)?

And then Android File Transfer doesn't work. Both Sync Manager and Android File Transfer say no device detected, please plug it in.

But it is plugged in with a USB cable.

The weird thing is it's worked in the past. it seems inconsistent. I keep thinking there MUST be a proper fix for this that I haven't found, but each time I look it's not out there.

Is there something I'm missing? Or is it really the case that this HTC One piece of sh#t can't reliably be mounted in a Macbook Pro via USB for file browsing/transfer etc??

Note I don't want or need any automatic syncing or cloud'ing or music app's or any 'magic' stuff. And I don't want to do it via WIFI or bluetooth or the internet. I just want to view the contents of my phone via a usb cable if that's ok. I know that's a lot to ask.

No offense intended, but I think the problem is that you are thinking of your phone as a Mac formated external hard drive, when it's more accurate to think of it as a computer in its own right.

The 'magic' solutions you mention aren't ways to make people take unnecessary steps just becuase it's cool or different, they're useful ways to transfer and view files across devices and operating systems.

The distinction you are drawing in your mind between the laptop as the primary device and the phone as a secondary device is no longer an accurate one. The issue isn't so much the subservient relationship between the phone and the laptop, but that they are both computers running different operating systems.

As for immediate problem, have you tried a different usb cable to see if it's that which is faulty?
