Are these GSM penta-band phones?

I'm interested in whether the XL with the Krait S4 will work on 1700/2100 spectrum that T-Mobile uses.
The One S will be released on T-Mobile and it uses a similar S4 processor as the AT&T version. I guess what I want to know is whether this CPU comes with all those frequencies enabled or whether Qualcomm/HTC or the provider somehow disables the frequencies not needed for their spectrum somewhere in the manufacturing/distribution process.

I too would like to know that. I would consider picking up an unlocked gsm version to run on TMO if it were possible.

Although the processors in both the S and the X are new S4 chips, they are not the same. Unfortunately, according to HTC's site, the One X will not be compatible with T-Mobile with the S4 chip. It doesn't mention any information about the Tegra 3 though, you may have better luck with an unlocked One X with a Tegra 3.

As far as I know, and the specs that have been mentioned, and from the hands on reviews of both devices, they both have the S4 and both are clocked at 1.5. What has been the case with the Inspire is that you can run on tmobile but you will only obtain edge speeds. I personally would rather have the One S if I was on tmobile. However, I'm on AT&T and will be picking up the One X/XL. My advice, since they are clocked the same, is to get yourselves the One S and be able to get the fastest possible data speeds.

I think the OP is asking if an unlocked international One X will work on T-Mo's "4G" ...and I'd like to know as well, but I haven't heard one way or the other yet:( I'd so prefer the One X to the S!

But here's what's listed under the "Network" section for that AT&T One X
"WCDMA: 2100/1900/AWS/850"

Doesn't the AWS mean T-Mobile spectrum in this case?

From Wikipedia:
"Band IV (W-CDMA 1700 or Advanced Wireless Services) in the United States (T-Mobile USA) and Canada (WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Vid?otron)"

Judging by Anand's latest benchmark's though I wouldn't mind either the Tegra-3 or the Krait S4. I just want this phone :p

I would be willing to bet that even if the chipset supports that frequency that the carrier will lock out any that it doesn't need to work on its network.

Just look at the G2X fiasco to see what I mean.

I've never heard of that happening with an imported, international phone... Is that even possible?

The international version should work on both tmo and att. Though the retail lte version may be a different story they could easily lock out those bands

So it seems that the international version is not going to work on T-Mo :(

What I wouldn't give for an unlocked, 32GB, pentaband version of the X with that Krait processor :-$

Phil said the Tegra 3 version does not work on T-Mo 3G/HSPA+. Not sure about the international One XL, though.

And the S4 is in the One XL. So find one of those and you have the international unlocked version of the One X with the Krait SoC. :)
