Are they retrofitting Thunderbolts as we speak?

They could just have the battery as an add-on -- meaning it's external to the box that Verizon/Best Buy would just give you. That'd mean you'd have two batteries and more expense for Verizon, but that might also help win back customers who have frowned upon this entire ordeal.

...anyone hear an Echo?
-Kyocera

Good Lord i hope they don't simply provide 2 batteries and expect that to 'fix' the issue--unless 1's the original and the 2nd is the upgraded 1.21 Gigawatts version :) seems only fitting they'd provide a battery powered by a bolt of lightning for the phone named Thunderbolt.

I would like to see a plastic baggy taped to the box with a battery inside it! would really make you feel like u got ur moneys worth :p

My thought was that the new one would be the 'upgraded' one (assuming that's the issue), but you'd still have the one that came with it (i.e., the 1400mAh one). Not two of the same 'bad' batteries.

Seriously if this thing doesn't hold charge for a full day it stops being a mobile phone and I stop wanting it. Bottom line is i need a -phone-

I figured :)

and to clarify--i hope you didn't take offense at the "anyone hear an Echo------Kyocera" portion as if someone had stated your comment earlier and you were merely resounding the same. i was actually stating the fiasco with the new Sprint dual screen phone with 2 batteries included to give the phone enough juice to get through an average day. i was just citing a 'fail' on Sprint's part to allow that oversight & hoping VZW wouldn't make the same mistake.

Some of you may remember that Motorola did this with the original Q after there were widespread battery life complaints. They started throwing in an extended battery & battery door with every device.
I had that phone, pre big battery and it was horrible for battery life

If it was a battery issue don't you think they would have known that more than 2 weeks ago? Like at CES in January.

So being this is all far stretching thinking, I will go with this.

Let's say VZW/HTC did the rumored power mgmt tweak and that helped but still didn't meet the minimum standards of VZW for usage times. They would need to do something hardware-wise. Now VZW sells the Inc extended battery and door for $60. At most it costs them $30 (if even that). It would probably cost HTC even less being a manufacturer. So considering that this is a "flagship" devise and the rumored cost is atleast $50 over all other smartphones, it could be a possibility.

Doesn't matter what they do as long as it does drop on the 10th and works properly.

A larger battery would make sense but if they have to re-open those sealed boxes, then take out old battery and insert new battery on the scale that they would need... I don't see how they would be able to launch the phone next week.

Well if they actually did do that then they are already done. They would have started around Feb 14th and ended yesterday. Thunderbolts are defiantly ready for launch now.

Any word on an announcement date at Least Bennnnnnnnnnnnnn?

i do agree with cory it would definitely be annoying if their fix to the battery life is to reduce other feature sets. right now, i dont have high hopes. i too need a phone that can survive one full day, that's roughly 17 hrs with about 3-5 hrs of use, hopefully it'll manage, but if not, i will likely opt for something else. but then again, plenty of conditions will push me towards other phones, being $300 will, increasing the price of lte data will, low battery life will, so at the current time, im just hoping that at release, verizon will live up to their word and launch a near perfect phone that will last at least 1 full day under normal use, sell it at 250 and give early LTE adopters the chance to lock into the $30 unlimited data plan ^^;;; maybe im asking for too much...

No offense taken. :) I hadn't heard about the Echo issues, but I figured as much from your post.

That Kyocera Echo is a joke...I doubt it will ever get launched. VZW has its share of Fail Phones also, so I think its an industry-wide issue. HTC's work pretty good though. Sanyo and Kyocera are the worst across the carrier spectrum.

I live at a computer, so battery life doesn't bother me much. I can plug it in anytime. Now, camping or motorcycle trips would be a little tougher with 6 hours of battery life.

I think it'll get released, especially after Sprint made such a big deal over it, but I agree with everything here. It's the nature of the beast sometimes, especially when it comes to Android that we have some pretty lousy phones floating around out there. HTC's work is solid most of the time, so I have a good feeling about the Tbolt.
