Are you going to buy a Nexus 6?

Will you be purchasing a Nexus 6?

But... Wha? The n5 was definitely a flagship when it came out except for the battery. What has changed other than newer specs and screen size?

But it wasn't flagship - how could it be? The N5 is a slightly watered down version of the G2. The N4 was a slightly watered down version of the Optimus G. Don't get me wrong, both great phones in their own right, but not cutting edge pack leaders.

This is the first Nexus that's actually moved a tier above the phone it's based off of, rather than below.

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

I bought a Nexus 5 last year so I don't really need another phone at all. I've always wanted a Moto Nexus and the Nexus 6 looks very nice. I like the specs. I can't say it is too big for me because I haven't held it in my hand or even actually seen it. I thought the M7 and M8 were big until I saw them in person. I am on the fence. I don't need another phone, I have the funds so my question is will Moto make the next Nexus and will that come with a 64 bit processor to future proof it?

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

Well, the only thing that is killing it for me is the release date, I am upgrading from a GS3 and I just can't wait any longer. I am picking me up a GN4 tomorrow from T-Mobile.

OK, I see what you're saying. Was the Nexus 5 processor same as in the G2?

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

Like others have said, it looks like a great phone but the price was a shocker! Phil says we were spoiled with low Nexus prices up to now, and he's right. I've loved all my Nexus devices and am very happy with the N5 for the price. The N6 may or may not be too big, there's no way to know right now. How many Forum folks predicted the Note wouldn't sell? It turned out to be hugely popular, so why not the N6? It might be the best Nexus ever, we'll have to wait for some reviews, but I sure wish it had included wireless charging. I've really gotten used to the wireless charging on the N5 and N7, so I think I'll wait on the N6 and buy a N9 instead. Anyway, the low-pricing on the Nexus phones was great while it lasted...

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

but I sure wish it had included wireless charging.

The Nexus 6 does include wireless charging.

Not that I'd use it as wireless charging is slow as hell, and the Nexus 6 has Motorola's turbo charge (supposedly full 100% charge in just over an hour), so yeah, I'm not going to screw around putting my phone on some mat and wait for hours to juice it.

And yeah, consumers were spoiled with the Nexus 4 and 5. It was unsustainable for Google as they were subsidizing the cost, so the more popular and the more devices they sold, the more money Google would lose out on. This has been addressed with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. Now Google won't take a loss on every device sold, it's available on all carriers and Google are hoping for them to sell a boat load.

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

It's not that I don't like the nexus 6, it has some nice features, bigger battery, better camera, better screen, water resistence and some fancy things here and there, but I couldn't justify paying for what I can get 2 one+s.
Yeah, I would love to have the N6, but I just can't see paying $650 for it. The one+ seems like the best value right now, and it's a big phone with high end specs.

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

wireless charging is slow as hell

True...... I have 3 wireless charging mats for my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2 at home and one at work) I throw mine on the mat at night when I know I am going to bed and not going to touch my phone for the next 6 - 8 hours... I have another one on my desk at work that I throw it on usually about 2 - 3 hours before I leave each day to just top off and make sure I am at or near 100% when I leave for the day....

I've not physically plugged my Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 up more than a dozen times each since I got them.... I just throw it down and leave it... With the Nexus 6 they are claiming all day battery life.... The turbo charger will be awesome for those times you just totally forget to charge it and are about to head out the door.... a quick boost of power.... but if you plan right with your usage and charging amount of time it takes to charge wireless is an awesome option...

In the dark if I accidentally pull the plug out at night I don't have to fumble around for the cable... Just throw it down and you are done....

EDIT: I've only maybe 4 or 5 times had to put it on the wireless charging mat and just flat out leave it because the battery was DEAD beyond use anymore.... I charge it all night and charge it at work.... if I am at home on a Saturday and not using it I set it down on the one in the kitchen here and there to top charge....

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

Nexus 6 has Motorola's turbo charge

You also realize the "Turbo" charger only works if the battery is almost dead..

**Battery must be substantially depleted; charging rate slows as charging progresses. (From the Motorola Nexus 6 information FINE PRINT section)

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

No this is NOT the Nexus I will be buying. Was curious to see Lollipop on a New Nexus. Then I heard the size and went WTF. Then I heard the price and said no f***ing way. So this one will be a no go for me. On another forum (+G) what we really have here is Android Silver with the Nexus name. Android Silver wasn't canned just name changed to the Nexus line. Well Homey don't play dat game. May as well get a great 5.5 phone from OnePlus for half the price. Far as i'm concerned they can stick the N6 so far up their behind that when they get a call their eyes light up.

Oh didn't know that. Wonder what substantially depleted is? <15%?

Still though, it seems like it'll charge faster than regular phones, which is great.

Still better than a wireless charge which takes so long and if you misplace it, then it won't get any charge at all. Also when I'm at my computer desk at home if plug the charger in to the phone I can still use it and it's still being charged, rather than stop charging due to it being pulled off the mat.

I've tried wireless charging. I just don't like it. The benefit (which really isn't any to me) don't outweigh the costs. You still have to put it on the mat every time. Might as well plug it in. It's not like wireless charging has advanced to a point where I can leave the phone anywhere on the desk or in my pocket and it'll charge. I want my devices to be charged as fast as possible, which I why I don't use USB charging through my PC. Always wall socket.

Just last week on Saturday I was out most of the day, phone depleted to 10% by 8pm, I put it on the charge, left at 9:30 pm and had 80% charge, went out, came back at 3:30am and it was down to 5%. If I put it on wireless charge, I'd be lucky to get the battery to 50% and then going out, the battery would have died.

Re: Now that it's announced, will you be buying?

rather than stop charging due to it being pulled off the ma

This was a worry of mine originally.... It's almost like the size of the device... Personal preference is king.... for me I love it.... and early on I ran a couple of test from both the standard plug in the wall charger that came with my Nexus 5 and using the TYLT wireless mat.... going down to 10% battery life took about 2 hours to fully charge wired and almost 3 hours wireless.... After a couple of test I found wireless takes roughly 30% more time to charge than via the wire....

Just depends on your day... I know I throw mine on the charger at night and leave it.... I can easily go through my work day without needing a charge but from 7 am - 4 pm if I don't charge it I better not have plans for anything after work (or at least not for very long) but if I set it down for 20 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times before lunch and 3 or 4 times after lunch I usually leave work at about 90 - 100 charged and then I use it until I go to bed around 10 pm...

My wife has an HTC One M8 so she has to plug her phone up.. I have numerous chargers around the house and in drawers.... I do have a cable in my car for those "Just in case" moments where I need to boost charge on the ride somewhere....

and I don't know what substantially depleted means.... That is kind of vague don't you think??? 10%? 20%? and then how much does it drop off after a quick boost of charging? but yeah I can see myself using my wireless mat like now and then using the turbo charger for emergency "I am dead and we need to leave in 20 minutes." situations.. It's happened before and I know it will happen again....

I was against it but I have come to accept that my next phone could be phablet.

I think I may get the N5 for the wife as we both move away from Apple together.

Being able to buy a 64gb version at launch makes all the difference.

Maybe one day Australia will get Moto Maker access.

Maybe after India, everything is about India these days.

I may be getting it, but it'll be going to my wife. :) Still keeping my Nexus 5 for the time being.

If anyone was hoping it would be cheaper on the play store, prepare to be disappointed. The page is up on the play store (you can't order it) and it says 649.
