Unless they're holding back on some awful fact about the new XL or if Google maintains its exclusivity deal with Verizon, I'm almost duty-bound to buy one. To date, the only thing I can think of not to like about it is the 18:9 instead of 16:9 aspect ratio. But that's no deal breaker as long as the display is both OLED and easily visible outdoors.

A more efficient chip still doesn't account for different use scenarios or poor reception. That efficient chip means someone with average use and good signal will have their phone last all day. Meanwhile, I'd still have to rely on charging a few times throughout the day.

A bigger battery means I'd have a chance of going a full day with minimal or no charging while the guy with average use and good signal could likely have his phone not need to be charged until the next day.

So, yeah, I hope the Pixel XL 2 has a bigger battery. It's really annoying that OEM's strive for average battery life with their flagships just to be able to say it's thin.

As Dsignori pointed out, a more efficient chip will will help in different use scenarios and reception. It is connected to literally every single aspect of the phone since it is the "brain" of the phone.

When I was giving personal examples of how the Pixel operates to the other phones I've owned, it was to give an idea of how it compares to them. My usage and signal strength has been the same for all of those phones. My point was that, even though some argue this point, a smaller display with a lower resolution seems to make a big difference. The fact that I'm getting better battery life and SOT with the Pixel which has the smallest battery of the bunch I believe confirms that. I'm in one area 90% of the time, and signal strength if anything has gone down a bit since the Droid Maxx, but I'd say it's been pretty much the same since the Droid Turbo.

Again, I wasn't saying that a larger battery isn't welcome or necessary, simply saying that last year's Pixel has done very well in my use. And since the SD835/836 has been more efficient that the SD820/821 from last year, I think good battery life will continue even if they don't increase the battery size. But again I hope they do increase it, if for no other reason than that I'd like to be able to achieve multi-day battery life.

The only one we know for sure is the 64GB size from FCC testing.

If Google going up against Apple head to head they want the same memory options!

They haven't been defined publicly yet, through leaks or officially other than the 64 as you said.

Well I was on the yes I'm getting the Pixel 2, to now I'm leaning more toward no. I think it comes down to the value vs price. If they duplicate what happen with charging a premium price for a phone that isn't at all premium will not go well this time. if it doesn't have IPXX protection it will be a no go for me. If it doesn't match most of it's competitors than it will be a firm no for me. It doesn't have to match spec for spec but if it duplicates last year's excuses then I won't have faith in google and my money goes elsewhere.

OS wise they have android where it needs to be but keep pushing the envelope. As far as drivers and hardware for their phones they need better TLC/QC. Signal and Bluetooth problems won't fly this year. They also need a great bit more focus on their own apps and the play store apps and demand better quality from their developers. But that's another discussion altogether.

I went for the Pixel XL but returned for signal drop and Wi-Fi issues. Will go for XL 2 and hope for better results. If not . . . I'll return it. Pixel XL return was very easy. So I'm not worried.

Yes, I will be getting the new XL2, my current XL will go to my best friend, she has my former 6P.

I've had plenty of Samsung phones and a couple of Moto's and the Nexus and Pixels have been much better for me usage wise. This is just my opinion.

Since the v30 has only a 3300mah battery, I am not particularly optimistic about the Xl 2 battery size. I guess we will see ..

It's funny how the 1 consistent disappointment for me in just about all new phones seems to be that - in spite of the phones being bigger overall - the battery sizes are mostly remaining the same or even decreasing. At some point the OEMs will figure it out and actually get battery sizes that match these huge phones, but for now it seems moderately disappointing to me.

(I know, queue the comments: " But the chips are more efficient and software is more efficient," etc . That is always the case though. Every year, chips will be more efficient, but that isn't an excuse to downsize a battery IMO.)

Not the 2 but maybe the 3. I'm kinda done with Samsung, getting tired of too many companies collecting my info, I'm good with Google but Samsung has nothing it can offer me. Samsung is also losing me with silly curved screens, Bixby, and their own gaggle of apps.

I've read a lot of comments on OEMs not having design input on Pixel phones. It's all Google. But when looking at the renders of the 2 Pixels fronts I sure see a lot of U11 & V30. It seems like Google is tweaking these existing designs rather than building something from scratch. Similar to a Chevy Tahoe / Cadillac Escalade or Ford Expedition / Lincoln Navigator. It just saves money. So in that sense, the OEMs have a lot of input.

Agree, the Pixel is right on the edge of too big and I won't accept anything larger. Currently hoping with the reduced bezels they can have same maybe larger screen and overall not as tall.

OEM's do have it figured out. Small battery means we'll need/want to upgrade our phones more often hoping that we'll get better battery life, which is rarely the case. They dupe us by convincing us it's okay to have smaller batteries because it makes the phone more thin and also because the chips are more efficient, ignoring the increasing power demands of our phones.

I don't know if Pixel 2 has reduced bezels, but the screen is slightly reduced, I think. Pixel XL 2 has drastically reduced bezels and increased screen size.

For those wondering, the physical size of the 2 XL and the 1st XL are approximately the same.

You could probably look at the V30 and not be far from the mark.
