Are you going to upgrade to the Pixel 2?

I would never ever have considered a Google phone but throwing away all my bluetooth peripherals for months waiting for a security update that may never come has me rethinking it.

Seriously. Exclusion is exclusion, sweetiepie, no matter the price tag. Glad you got a laugh out of it, though.

But, seriously, the best phone? It's not even a reality yet.

Sweetiepie? Well shucks. I appreciate the comment but I'm betrothed. 8-)

First, it's not exclusion as you can buy the phone from more than one place (Google or Verizon) and the P2 will work on ANY network. How's that a reasonable example of exclusion that justifies refusing to buy the thing?

I'm pretty practical. I don't really care who makes what deal. It doesn't affect me and "taking a stand" at the individual consumer level is just silly. It's a product, I just buy whatever one is the best for me.

My post, the one you quoted, was rhetorical and applies to one's purchase of a Samsung/Apple/Google, all mega-corporations with deals within deals within deal.

I have a Pixel XL and plan to change but will have to see what they offer first. I really want wireless charging but looks like I'll have to live without it again as no phone is perfect. Undecided on size this time round. Pixel the size of the regular S8 would be great.

I'm interested in jumping to a Pixel XL 2...

I still can't find an answer on ATT wifi calling on a Pixel. possible or not? if not, I may have to hold off.

please be so. And open up preorders immediately after the reveal so I can order one and then go get my geek on with the new Blade Runner.

Although AT&T will tell you that the Pixel is more than welcome on their network, AT&T's archaic policy is to deny certain features on BYOD (bring your own device) phones. Unfortunately, one of the features that AT&T chooses to reserve exclusively for their own AT&T branded phones is WiFi calling. The exception to this policy is the iPhone, probably due to Apple's considerable market clout. So, yes the phone is very capable of WiFi calling on the AT&T network, but no... AT&T will not permit it to use that feature.

I want to upgrade, but I'll wait to see if there's some trade in promotion for it. I don't need a new phone - my XL is as fresh and fast as the day I bought it. But I am getting a little jealous of these bezel less/lite phones, tbh.

At this point, it's a 100% lock. Got the 10p update and my kids Zmax Pro runs 1000 times better

Yup and the lack of support of certain advanced features causes issues for users bringing their own devices to AT&T. With my T-Mobile branded Note 4 that I brought over unlocked I would have frequent issues with MMS and group messaging with other users on other networks while I was on AT&T. Same with my Google purchased Pixel XL. I took my Pixel XL to T-Mobile network and had no such issues (didn't format the phone or reset it, just simple sim swap). Moved to Verizon and there too no issues. Proof positive for me at least that it does matter where you get your phone if you happen to need to use a carrier that doesn't fully embrace unlocked devices on their network.

Yes, I want the latest OS and N6 isn't getting it , and is showing it's age. Not going to enjoy the price, the N6 was $300...

Nope, especially if the pricing rumors are correct. I see no point in upgrading from the original Pixel after only a year of use.

Was painful paying what I paid for my 128GB Pixel XL last year, ain't no way in hell I'm paying the same for half the storage or over $900 for a 128gb Pixel 2 XL this year. Google's crazy . . I love a vanilla Android experience but not at these prices.

If the prices are correct, the base model went up by $80 - which comes with 32 GB more storage. Good deal. But the top model also went up by $80... for the same storage as before. Did it go up simply because the base version went up and they want to keep them $100 apart?

Good question. Wouldn't be bad if it were 256GB to match the iPhone sizes but it isn't as far as we know now.

Well, unit costs are probably slightly higher. The smaller pixel 2 is more a HW refresh, stands to reason that the costs outside of the storage bump are close to the same as last year. The XL2's display would be more pricy than the XL.

Good point

I really want it but it depends on what they show us. The bezels and lack of ip67 or higher prevented me from getting it.

I was an annual upgrade from the Nexus 4 to 5 to 6. The Nexus 6 was the first to really check off every box in terms of what I wanted from a phone (closest thing to a drawback was the camera, which was still quite good for the time, though not head of the pack) and still worked great when the 6p came out so didn't feel any huge pull to upgrade. Kept the 6 till the Pixel XL came out, and have been using the latter since then.

Now the 2nd generation is imminent. I'm definitely feeling the pull. Really wanting to have the front speakers again, I like the idea of getting back to the bigger screen especially when not having to go back to the N6-sized body. Only 3 things standing in the way right now of my decision to out the trigger:

1, price... For my budget, the Pixel XL was a big ticket item. I hate that the trend of increasing prices is continuing (and I fully expect the market to begin to vote against that with their wallets over the next several years by those using these high $ phones holding on to them longer). If there is a trade-in program for the Pixel XL that gives a reasonable value to make it not too expensive, and if T-Mobile does some form of monthly credit offer for those bringing the new model to their network again this year, I may still upgrade.

2, I'm on T-Mobile, and happy with their network, but know that this phone won't support the new 600Mhz bands on which they are expanding. I'm sure the 2018 model will, so it's a matter of, if having that compatibility when the 2018 releases will make a functional difference for me, an I willing to commit to buying the phone this year knowing I could feel an actual need to buy again next year.

3, Reliability... The last LG phone I had was the Nexus 5, which was fantastic - but my prior experience with LG had been poor, and they don't have a great reputation in that regard to this day. Even with Google doing all the cooking in LG's kitchen... I'd need to wait a bit to see what initial reliability reports look like.

------------

TLDR: Who am I kidding... If I can find a way to afford it, I'll buy it.
