Are you guys actually using your keyboard

Is there a compact qwerty keyboard on the Epic?

?? Just tap instead of swyping.

I love Swype. It's very cool...but I still like having a real keyboard for typing in passwords, phone numbers...and when I don't want to sound like a very well educated human being since swype makes you sound like that. I actually think I am faster Swype then on the physical keyboard.

Swype has a very nice thing going...it should dominate the tablet market.

I'm slowly transitioning from the QWERTY to Swype... and it's quite nice. (Oh, I used to be on a Blackberry, if that matters)

I'm using it to type this message now :-) (first time using smiley key, woot). Starting to like Swype though, but I feel better using the board for longer messages. Should also be nice for games once I DL some emulators. I think I'll like the perfect grid format for that purpose alone.

i too came from the blackberry (9630 tour) and this is my first time using sype and i love it! the only thing that sucks is having to slow down and adding the ? ! . , keys :\ the keyboard on the epic is alright, but its crapp compaired to the bb's keyboard. also, is it just me or does the epic not have a spell checker?

Swype is awesome, and i've been using it around 60% of the time. Like other people have stated though for login/password stuff that 5 row keyboard slides out every time.

depends on which keyboard you're using. Swype's built in one is weather or not it recognizes the word. The physical keyboard will correct Im to I'm, but not many words. I haven't tried the stock Samsung keyboard, but it probably does have a spell checker, stock android keyboad has one (apparently not on the device).

swiftkey

honestly, I use the keyboard more and more. I love swiftkey but the phone keeps engaging the android and swype keyboards so the swiftkey keyboard only comes up sometimes- if swiftkey could come up exculsively, I would use it all the time. Yes, I disengaged the other keyboards in settings but somehow, they re-engage...

My last phone was the Samsung Rant, so I really like the physical keyboard. Yet I rarely use it, use the touch-based keyboard, mostly. (Not the swype part, not sure what I think about that). But I LOVE that it has the physical keyboard for times when I feel like typing long msgs and stuff.

I'm liking swype, but only for short messages or a quick search. Otherwise I stick with the hardware keyboard for anything that requires anything of length or a mixture of letters, numbers and symbols. I also LOVE the speech-to-text option. Texting while driving is illegal in my state now, and this feature has been a godsend when I need to respond to something while in the car.

Yes, I'm using it right now.

I only use swype for two or three words at the most.

I thought I was a physical keyboard junkie. Then I discovered SWYPE. loooooving it!. It automatically places a space between words and 99% of the time I get the word I wanted. If you do a long press on a key it switches to it's ' function' key value.

Swipe is definitely one of the best things about this phone for me.

constantly use it...for everything....

but noticed that i use it on the web...do a lot of web browsing on it so i tend to keep the keyboard opened....even because it's just more comfortable to hold that way...
