Are you interested in buying the XZ2 or the XZ2 Compact?

I really like the look of the XZ2 and compact, and I like Sony phones in general, but no VoLTE, wifi calling, AOD, and bluetooth meta data in my car just kills them for me.

Yep no VoLTE as of now, falls back to HSPA+ when on call.

Not sure if they will/can enable later (Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE). Wi-Fi calling won't use, VoLTE is nice to have but I'm not on that many calls so not deal breaker.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. If I buy this phone unlocked in the US, I won't get VoLTE on T-Mobile?

I did buy it, and I think it's an absolutely gorgeous phone. I suspect that many of the people who criticize the design haven't actually held it; it feels great!

Having said that, I'm returning it today. There's a problem with the USB-C port, which won't allow the plug to go all the way in and lock into place. I'd probably consider just exchanging it, but Best Buy doesn't actually carry it in stores, only online.

So, considering all the little annoyances named in this thread (no metadata over Bluetooth, no ability to disable NFC status bar icon, no WiFi calling, no VoLTE), it's going back. I've sent a strongly worded email to Sony detailing all of this. I doubt very much they'll care about my single email, but maybe if enough people say similar things they'll notice. Back to the drawing board for me! OnePlus 6, anybody?

No metadata over Bluetooth? What does that mean? I do see my car display track info or podcast info when connected to my car via Bluetooth and playing. Is the metadata thing something different?

USB C some cables it's kind of tight, it happened with my razor USB C to 3.5 mm dongle but little push clicked it in.

VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling could be deal breakers for some.

OP6 is a great option honestly. Only knock I have against OP previously is camera still not up to mark with top smartphones and their updates situation suck (both security/platform). If updates don't bother them G7 is also worth a look. You can also wait for XZ2 premium hoping some the issues have been taken care (doubt it).

I have XZ2 compact coming in today. After a long time I'll be going back to compact phone. I'll use that as well for a while to decide if I want to keep the regular XZ2 or the compact one.

You're the second person I have heard metadata issues with Bluetooth. That's a bummer that you have to return it but I hope you can find the best fit for you. I wonder if System UI tuner could have done something about hiding the icon but the other issues for you is probably not enough to return it.

I'll be waiting for your thoughts/feedback on this.

I'm still undecided between the XZ2C and XZ2. Both are great and every time I start using one I feel like I'm missing out on the other one. I'm running out on return period on the XZ2 so have to make a decision on which to keep. Given that I have Pixel 2 XL which is a big phone and iPhone X, I'm leaning towards keeping the XZ2C as my compact phone. But you never know decisions are hard

Any of you guys know how good Sony is with major updates? I know they're good with the monthly security updates, but how would they be with updating to P?

The XZ Premium was updated to Oreo in October. I think it was the first phone after the Pixel to get the update.

I have the compact. I went from a big phone to this and so pleased I did. Battery life superb, it's very quick. Call quality good. No complaints

I have xz1 compact and I am considering xz2 compact. Is it worth it?
That only you can decide because everyone thinks different. Definitely new phones is better than old but is that difference big enough for you? Better camera, screen, internals so pretty much everything is better on XZ2C.

Ooh I had no idea that you kept it. I might give the XZ2C a try for the better camera processing apparently but that depends on what I hear about the SE refresh.

If you’re thinking of upgrading for the camera maybe consider waiting for the XZ2 Premium. It’s supposedly has a much better camera system (dual for one thing). The XZ2 camera isn’t much different from the XZ1.
