First I'm hearing of it...which phone?
Pixel 2 XL.. only can notice if you put another phone next to it.. the OLED screen looks reddish.

As far as I know, you need OLED to have VR (daydream) support. One reason why Google sticks with OLED. For LG, makes sense to have one of their flagships at least have VR support. I know VR is not a big deal but still makes sense to few of your devices support VR.
The colors and deep blacks of my Galaxy S7 is nice. The variable screen brightness is nice too, especially when it is sitting on the dash of my car. The problem is burn in. There are certain elements from the map software that are ghosted on every display on the phone now. I'm seriously considering going with LG G7 for the LCD when I have to upgrade.
After playing with this device for a couple more days I have changed my mind. I prefer this display. For some reason ots easier on my eyes and I also dont see any ghosting when scrolling from a light and dark image. Outside of display, this also seems really smooth, even compared to my note 8. So far, glad I got this phone.
ditto - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this lcd screen:
1) True white whites
2) no black clipping on dim scenes in movies and can actually see black gradients again....hated the note 8 amoled screen!!
3) super brighntess is waaaay brighter than the samsung equivalent when in direct sunlight.
4) LCD just looks sharper due to lack of pentile matrix for pixels

That would freak me out. My OLED TV has been fine but after seeing things about OLED phones, one of the reasons I went with the G7 over the V35 is that I did not want to have to worry about burn-in or retention. I like to be able to let my phone screen stay on for a long time and don't want to worry about it degrading over the couple years I'll be using it.
OLED's can be generally managed to increase blue levels, but over the years I've grown to not like it. I have a Sony XZ2 Compact and I've increased the warmer tones. People with OLED need to make mental notes that the screen must not stay stationary for extended periods of time. I love black screen, not grey.

Um that's not a myth; it is a factual statement that the LED technology is more energy efficient than the LCD technology. It's true in momitors, televisione, dashboard displays, watches and phones.Don't forget, the myth that AMOLED is better for battery life, IT'S NOT. Each individual pixel lighting up, especially white colors, kill the battery faster than a traditional IPS LCD lit screen. iPhones always had 1600-1800 mAh batteries with LCD screen, their battery life was usually very good. Speaking from experience, I feel like LCD is a bit more energy efficient.

If they had LCD screens that had deep blacls like oled then I would instantly choose that. But till they do, I dont think lcd picture quality is as good.
I personally don't care which tech is more efficient as the implementation is all that really matters to the end user. I'm continually impressed by how little this phone drains with the screen on. I was using it for work yesterday, playing music on it while keeping the screen on as I referred to schematics and layout pics stored on the phone for 4 hours. Battery didn't take a big hit and I was surprised at how cool the phone stayed. I usually expect a phone to run hot and drain the battery when I do this. But, this display seems to project a lot of light without much heat. Quite efficient compared to just about everything else I've used. I kept looking at the battery % in disbelief. Seriously impressive.
They are coming out with something like that very soon, mini-LED based zone backlighting. Its a technology in between LCD and MicroLED. It will result in much deeper inkier blacks that will rival OLED much better and will consume less power overall. My guess is late 2019 to early 2020 is when phones with mini-LED based LCD will come out.
