I just got a Galaxy 10.1 because the Ipad was bugging me. One of the things I hated about Ipad was inability to close apps . ALL WE NEED IS A SIMPLE upper right corner Close and Minimize button/option. I'm at a loss why this is so hard and not a given? I was quite surprised that when I got the Galaxy tab it also doesn't have this feature - forcing us to keep all apps open and take a convoluted route to go find and close apps.

LOVE the rest of the tablet though. But is there a well known app fix for this - are these the app killer apps? I just want an X To Close button

Thanks for listening, I feel better now.

Funny you should bring this up! I just picked up my Galaxy Tab 10.1 last night (thanks to Staples $100-off coupon!). I love this tablet, however it has been driving me crazy as to how to go about actually closing aps. I figured that it was something that I was missing, so came here for help. I am looking forward to hearing what others have to say.

Thanks!

I just ASSUMED it was an oversight by Apple. Even though on the MAC they seem to have a close/minimize option for Windows. And I just assumed the Android browser would have it - seems like such a given in Browsing and Applications in the 21st Century. Never assume .....

You don't need to close anything, that's the beauty of android. It will handle everything in the background for you. No need for an app killer app, and you will do more harm than good.

On the iPad...since there isn't any real multi-tasking model, doesn't navigating back to the home screen esentially close it?

No. It stays open forever. Then when you double push its main button it shows a zillion open apps that were never closed. Within there you can then actually close them.

Thanks for the reply! I dont understand. How can leaving apps open in the background (regardless of OS) NOT drain resources? If an Android app is open in background, say ebook reader, then you forget its open and next day open it again from desktop, does it open two instances?

Android keeps them in the background so when you need them they will open quickly. If the cpu needs more juice it will kill off Apps on its own. Head over the the htc evo 3d forum and check a recent thread explaining this very topic in detail.

The only true multitaskers are the hp touch pad and the blackberry playbook. Both use the swipe to switch and close gestures. The touch pad is to cheep to use and the playbook is to held back. I have the playbook,i love qnx i hate mike and Jim.

Care the best elaborate on how the gt10 doesn't multi task? The button right next to home brings up all of your open Apps for easy switching. pretty simple and straightforward

Android is true multi-tasking also. The ability to switch between all the open apps and/or close them is a different feature and doesn't define whether it's multi-tasking...although from a user perspective I can see that the UI is what gives the impression of what features the OS supports...so kind of misleading.
