Arkon Weighted "Friction Style" Dash Mount & Holder

with 3m tape.....guy is unloading them on ebay for 20.00 but wirelessforless has them for 5.00 plust 5 for shipping using code "woot".
My vents really restrict me from using the xway?

I just ordered the arkon SM415.

Don't know yet whether I will dash mount it or windshield (I have a honda accord sedan.) I will probably try both. I decided not to go with the floor bolt model, since it puts the phone too low for me (my main use is as a GPS and I don't like having to look too far down from the windshield.) I like the proclips units, but from what I could tell, they were a non-starter due to the verizon slide on case I use (and like.)

Dan,
The adjustable from proclip should work....
I can't see jack on my phone when it is up by the windshield so my new radio has an audio jack....I am just going to keep the phone low I think and just listen to the directions, etc.

Hmmm, well, I saw some cautions (don't remember where) that they fit tightly and if you had other than a thin skin it was a problem.

better to be safe then sorry especially when they charge so much.....
I have a mount for my sat radio years ago and it was 40 for the bracket and what a pain it was to have my cradle fit it.

Thanks for the post jasonB. I've been trying to find a set up for my Incredible also and came across this thread. I have a Scion tC also and I like how yours is mounted.

If it helps, Arkon makes two different styles of holder, the "Mega" style works with the Incredible (doesn't cover the volume buttons and the charging port is clear), the "Mini" doesn't.

Check your car before you order. Went to install it on the passenger seat bolt and low and behold, there are no bolts on my Tahoe. Trying to MacGyver something up as there's really no good place to drill the mount either given it's height. It's not long enough to drill into the floor. Guess it's meant for smaller cars. I'll find some redneck fix though.

I will say it is a solid built mount. Mounts are metal and the shaft is very sturdy. And the way the dock holds/releases the phone is great.

Well, after 3 days with the Arkon unit (the mega-grip one), I'm returning it. The killer is that the balljoint does not have enough friction, so any bump at all (or my trying to press on the screen) causes the incredible to rotate all over. Poo...

Okay, update. The looseness was my bad - I didn't notice to tighten the knurled wheel on the back. The bad news, I still can't use this for an in-car nav, but not the holder's fault (I don't think.) After much experimentation, I found that if I am not actually holding the incredible, the touch screen doesn't work at all (occasionally it registers a push but rarely.) I proved this by putting the unit in the arkon and holding the arkon in my hand but by the suction cup part. Screen presses not registered. Slide my fingers up the stalk and try again. No go. Finally when my fingers were almost touching the back of the phone, it started working. Some sort of proximity sensor issue?

Tony,
Any pics of the M2 yet? I'd like to see how you have it mounted and also how you have the mount on the phone? (the ring)

So, some googling indicates this is not unique to me - quite a few people have reported issues where the screen does not respond if whatever is holding the phone is not conductive (that is my reading of it anyway). So, no car dock for me :( Aside from that, I absolutely love the phone, so I guess I just keep the garmin...

Yeah there was a rather lengthy thread here with video etc with people and this issue. If you plug it into the car charger it will work again. From my understanding it's a grounding issue with your phone. Mine doesn't do it and I don't think anyone has figured out why some do it and some don't.

oh, huh. you know, now that i think about it, i was NOT plugged in to the car outlet! i will give that a try... thanks!

Mine sometimes has wonky screen response when in the car dock too. Plugged in or not. I’ve just gotten into the habit of using my pinky to touch the side of the phone when using the touch screen in the car. It’s not awkward… but suddenly I’m now thinking to myself… “Don’t hold it that way” and feeling all ugggy. ;)
