As a Mac user, how locked am I to the Apple ecosystem? The answer turns out to be "very."

Also, have you tried SwiftKey keyboard? Swype is cool, but SwiftKey is amazing. (also possible that swype has drastically improved and is now comparable to SwiftKey, but I haven't used it in a long time.

I have not tried SwiftKey. Is it conceptually the same as Swype? Anyway, the built-in gesture/Swype keyboard works great.

The voice-to-text dictation needs a lot of work though. It isn't nearly as good as Siri I don't think. But I can at least usually get it to enter new paragraphs now.

I also wish there was an easier way to switch back from Japanese input to English input. For some reason the English keyboard has a nice "globe" key to the left of the spacebar and you can quickly toggle into Japanese input mode. But the Japanese keyboard doesn't have the same toggle button, so you have to go through a couple of steps to get back to English. The "toggling between different languages" is easier in iOS.

I also tried swype, while cool at first, it just doesnt match the quality of Swiftkey. The predictions are really nice since it learns from you over time and you can also have it learn from facebook, emails, twitter, etc... It also has the ability to be used like Swype where you can type by...well... swiping. It is always the first thing I install on any new android device and by far my favorite app to use. I havent used Swype in awhile so I also dont know if it has upped its game, but Swiftkey is pretty much perfect now. Give it a try, its worth it.

I might give it a try in a while after I make sure that everything else is solved (e.g. my various remaining synchronization issues). Thanks.
