Ask me about the new Nexus 7!

Hey Andrew, what is the WiFi link speed when connected on 2.4 & 5 GHz? The OG nexus 7 only connects at 65Mbps.

Cheers!

Questions#1
How do you transfer photos and video from device to a computer or vice versa? Is it direct transfer from usb connecting the from both device?

Questions#2
On my toshiba thrive tablet (now sold), I am able to save app apk files and transfer them from computer to the tablet to be installed, thru unknown source checked on, is it possible and the same method on this nexus 7 device?

Thanks!

The new version is definitely worth it for those who don't have the older version. For those who do, it really depends on what you want out of a tablet. For example, the new Nexus 7 has many features the old ones doesn't, such as a 1080p screen, much better processor, better GPU, better build quality, and a rear camera. I guess you would have to just look over the complete specs and see if receiving anything on the new one is worth it for you.

Well my N7 has certainly lost its butter. If the 4.3 update doesn't fix that, I'll have to think about reselling my current one and getting the new one.

Does anyone know how much a 32 GB, WiFi-only model will sell for now that the new one is out?

New to the forum and new to android. My question is what is the best media player (videos, MKV,MP4 etc) for the Nexus 7 2. I currently have Vplayer but i cannot for hte life of me figure out how to stop it from auto-adjusting the brightness everytime i play a video. I already turned off the auto setting for brightness so i dont know why the Vplayer app keeps doing it.

Can the charger from the 1st Generation Nexus 7 be used with the 2nd Generation Nexus 7.

1st Gen: 5 Volts x 2 Amps = 10 Watts
2nd Gen: 5.2 Volts x 1.35 Amps = 7.02 Watts

Can the 2nd Generation Nexus 7 take 10 Watts of juice or does the 1st Gen charger's circuity throttle back to 7 Watts?

Wanting to avoid frying a 2nd Gen on the first day, I'm not going to experiment. But does anybody know the official word from Google or Asus on this?

could you record a 1080 p back camera video sample?

Yup! It's coming in the full review. A little spoiler alert though -- it's not that great.

I see it has the LED notification, but when does it ever go off? Mine hasn't done so for anything. Just wanting to make sure it works. Thanks.

As was the case with the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4, there's no control over when the light blinks. It's pretty much on an app-by-app basis. Mine seems to blink white for most notifications I get. Grab an app like Light Flow if you want granular control of it or want to turn it off completely.

If I'm in a place where I don't have wi-fi, can I plug a USB cable into my computer and connect to the Internet that way?

Do I need to install any drivers to access the N7 from my computer when it's connected via USB?

Thanks!

Yes, you'll likely have to install some sort of drivers on a windows PC to access it, as is the case with most phones and tablets. Thankfully I have a Mac and don't have to bother with them ;) .

1) Anything you use to transfer photos/video to/from your computer with other phones and tablets applies just fine here. Plug it in, install drivers (on windows) and drag+drop. Mac users can use the Android File Transfer app as well.

2) Of course. Once you check the 'unknown sources' box you can install them just fine. How you decide to get them onto the device is completely irrelevant as long as they get there and are accessible in a file manager.

Is there Calling feature in the new Nexus 7 ??? YES/NO ???

No, and the LTE model won't have it either. Data only.

Got a few more.

Does slimport have any difference in display?

Is it any taller than the original?

Is it WORTH the upgrade?

2mm taller, but it may look even taller than that considering it is narrower.

I completely think it is worth the upgrade, yes.

Waiting to know if OTG works before I preorder. Seems like a few people have asked already though...

I don't have an OTG cable, and none of the apps in the Play Store will properly indicate whether or not it has the functionality. Rumblings around the forums lean towards "yes".

Would a new nexus 7 bought from the US have exactly the same functionality if I was to use it primarily in the UK?

Yup. Ships with English US and English UK dictionaries. Other than a UK charger you wouldn't know the difference. Now when the LTE model hits there will be a difference in bands available and you'll want the Euro-specific SKU.

The glass is a deal-breaker for me. I need Gorilla Glass, because otherwise I'll break it.

The specs quote "Gorilla Glass", but it isn't clear what "version" it is. Gotta realize there's nothing magical about Gorilla Glass though. This screen will scratch too.

Waiting for the 4.3 ota hopping it may solve the lag issues in the old M7, do you think the same issues will arise in the new N7 as I am loath to spend more money on a device that basically dies after a few months use. Many thanks in advance, Barry

Might want to give this a read: Nexus devices updated to Android 4.3 will now have TRIM support

Is there a magnetic smart cover sensor like the old one had?

Yes there is!

Is the screen a bit smaller than the original? The original has a 7.51 in. screen while the new one has 7.01 screen according to specs.

Indistinguishably larger. There's no way to tell with the naked eye.

Do you have access to Nokia wireless charging stand? To check if it would work with N7?

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta

I don't, but it should work just fine if it is Qi-compatible.

Does the wifi version have GPS?

Yes sir.

Comparing the stereo speakers on the HTC One and the Nexus 7, which speakers do you prefer/sound better?

It's a tough comparison because the HTC One speakers are pointed right at you, but you won't be disappointed by the Nexus 7's offering. Although your hands tend to cover them when used in landscape mode, they offer a solid sound.

Dug out the original N7 charger just for you, and yes it works just fine. Haven't found anything that the new Nexus 7 won't charge off of -- even a USB 3.0 port (800mA at most) on my MacBook Air. These devices are pretty good about handling whatever USB power you offer them.

Amazon offered me $100 for a unit in like new condition (no scratches, marks, etc) with box, packing materials, manual, etc

Internal Voltage regulation will only accept whats safe for the device, your not talking about very much difference here so your fine. I do find it interesting though that its a smaller charger. I made a thread about this and it got a lot of views but no real answers.

Does you notification light blink or does it just stay on when you get a notification?
