Ask vzw for early upgrade to Galaxy Nexus

Here is a little trick I have learned from Verizon, if something goes wrong with ur phone and u have to send it back (just make something up and complain enough and they will say ok, we will send u a replacement), I actually had something wrong so I didnt have to make anything up but u get my drift. Do it again about a month later n say prob still not fixed, they will replace it again. Call them one more time and say u are very unhappy that u have had 2 replacement phones and still having problems. It is their policy to offer u any phone that u want. Does not matter what the price is and does not matter if u had a normal phone and say u want the new Iphone. They will eat the cost and u will have the hone u want. I know many people who have taken advantage of this, so it does work. Just give it a little bit of time between phones before u call again.

Incorrect.
You can only get a phone of equal or lesser value. If that is not available then they expand the offer depending on circumstances.

This is why insurance etc goes up because people make a stink to get an upgraded device.

Edit: I personally think they are giving away iphone's because of marketing and they want to boost their "sale" figures with the iphone.

OK, I promised myself I wouldn't respond to this thread, but then I read the above and I can't help myself.

Verizon subsidizes the price of the phone in exchange for a two-year contract from the customer. How is this difficult to understand? It's sentiment like the OP's post and the above post which is why VZW has done away with the NE2 discount to virtually nothing while bumping up the ETF. People have been actively scheming and scamming VZW any which way but loose to get the latest and greatest on their dime. These phones don't cost .01, $99, $199, or even $299. Parts and assembly alone put these phones north of $300, and factor in marketing (commercials, in-store collateral) and the actual cost of the phone is much more.

VZ takes a loss on each phone up front to entice people, and then they recoup that loss over time via your monthly plan cost, amortized over two years. You want the same deal again without actually giving them the opportunity to recoup the loss they took on the TB sale? How is that good business for VZW to do en masse?

The OP's justification:
OPJones said:
Those of us on the Thunderbolt were the first adopters to 4G and with any first adopters you're taking a chance on something and things never go as planned

Does not compute. You're essentially saying, "I'm taking a risk on being an early adopter. Aside from being compensated for that risk in the form of having a cool phone before everyone else, I want the pros of being an early adopter without any of the cons, and it's VZW's responsibility to provide. Also, I want to be an early adopter again with the Galaxy Nexus."

If you think being an early adopter is too high a price to pay, then wait for your contract to be up before you get the Galaxy Nexus. All problems solved.

1) Any early adopter risk by that point is already mitigated in the form of patches and updates
2) You get the phone at a fully subsidized price

Win / Win yes?

You should stick to your own promises. Don't blame me for verizon's marketing, they are the ones sending me the offers, I'm not scheming. And I'm an early adopter of 4G, not the thunderbolt, so your point is moot.

But didn't you say that to just keep calling even if you don't have a bad device?
That is scamming the system no?

Unless I misread what your post intent was.

Look at name, read post, that was not me. I have never scammed verizon, they have always been gracious to me and sent me early upgrades. It could be do to the fact that I've been a loyal verizon subscriber for over 10 years.

it's getting kind of insane the number of devices coming out, the bionic just came out, droid x2, droid inc, and droid charge all came out over the summer. now we're getting the droid razr and the galaxy nexus... and I guess HTC just came out with a couple as well, but I forget the names and isn't a new HTC device going to be released soon as well? tbolt2?

but again, as others have said, new phones are always coming out, this just happens to be the flavor of the month. yes, the nexus is a hot phone, but when your contract is up, there will be another hot phone out.

an interesting article this morning as well that I came across that kind of relates to this: The Problem With Mobile Devices, The Price Tag [Opinion] - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

This.

How does this thread have 18 likes?

Do you all really think Verizon is going to give you an early upgrade when you currently own the Thunderbolt.. a phone that came out a few months ago..

Most of those likes are against the OP's view (not for). Seven alone for mikestorm's post you reference and seven just from a misspelling and a zombie reference (completely off topic). So the likes are not a very good representation here. :)

i Got My Thunderbolt In May And
Actually I Called Sunday To Add The Unlimited Mobile Hotspot
And They Told Me That My Thunderbolt Line Was Eligible For An Upgrade And a 30 Dollars Off
Go Figure:0

This is dishonest and wrong. It is basically the same as stealing. Why do some people have this insatiable need to have new phones every few months? It's not really that exciting...it's still Android. So the new phone opens an app .2 seconds faster? So what?

That said, if you want to ask Verizon for an upgrade and they decide to grant it to you, there's nothing wrong with that, but don't get pushy. You signed a 2 year contract and they don't have any obligation to let you upgrade early.

I have had my DX for a year and I plan on keeping it until the end of next Summer when my contract is up.

The DX is a nice phone :D Every since I hopped on the android train I've wanted a dev phone, and now that verizon is finally offering one I'm very excited to get it. I have a strong feeling if I end up getting the nexus that I will be happy with it for the length of my next contract. If I can't get it no biggie I'll just wait and see what's available when it's up. But it doesn't hurt tying, as long as you're not scamming verizon.

I'm going to shot a couple more tweets/emails it's launches and see if I get any feedback. I'm not going to bother calling because I know going that route they'll tell me I'm not eligible for an update.
