Assigning ringtones

I transferred all my info to my new phone. How come when I try to assign a ringtone to a contact it wants me to assign an app to open with. Some of these are the ones that come in with the phone

Welcome to Android Central! If you have certain 3rd party apps installed (like a 3rd party file manager), the system will give you a choice of which app to display the available ringtones to select from. I'd stick with the system app, not your 3rd party app.

Ok, can you tell us exactly how you're trying to assign a ringtone to a contact? Are you opening the Contacts app, selecting the contact you want, then tapping Menu, then Assign Ringtone?
