A few days ago turning on my cell, I had an unusual popup:
Use Sim1 for data use (I can't recall the exact message)

OK
There was no cancel option.

As I used the phone, I notice the bottom soft key buttons on the bottom of the cell (not the screen): (middle) “Home” and (right) “window tile” stopped working but felt the vibration as though it was trying to invoke.

The left button (go back) was the only button working.
Also, trying to scroll from the top of the screen only shows the date and the settings gear, it won't scroll scrolling a 2nd time to show the rest of the icons

Shutting it off only shows shut off and restart, missing the 3rd option: airplane mode

Obviously there is a configuration difference that I have been unable to fix.
I have gone to “Gestures” to see if there is something there that needs re-configuring.
I hope I don’t have to restore it to the original configuration from the box just for this.
Is there a way to force another popup on start to switch my phone back to the original configuration?

Any ideas would be helpful.

Welcome to Android Central! That's a 9 year old phone, so it's always possible that the firmware is getting corrupt, or that the hardware is starting to fail.

Try wiping the system cache partition, which won't affect any personal data: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/asus/asus-zenfone-2-laser-ze500kl/recovery-mode/

Yes,i it's an old phone.

I will give that system cache partition wipe a try. I'll have to look for some good instructions for my specific model.
