ASUS Zenfone 2 RAM

My ASUS Zenfone 2 has 4GB of ram, but at any given time only 2GB is available to me. On the other hand, everything loads and works flawlessly. Should I be concerned? If not, what is the other 2GB of ram doing at any given time if no apps are running?

Re: ASUS Zenfone 2 RAM

Its normal. The rest of the RAM is used to cache all active applications and tasks so that when you use the application next time it opens quickly.

Re: ASUS Zenfone 2 RAM

It's nothing to be concerned with.

How are you liking the phone? Welcome to Android Central, by the way!

Re: ASUS Zenfone 2 RAM

Im loving the phone! Super fast and smooth, gaming and websurfing us great on this phone. For an update on my post, my phone is at around 2.5 GB used and about 1.5 is free to me.

Re: ASUS Zenfone 2 RAM

Just as an update, my phone used up anywhere from 2-2.5GB of RAM and i usually only have around 1.5 free. Is that still normal?

Re: ASUS Zenfone 2 RAM

I'd like to ask you a fair question. Just for pragmatical reasons (in fact this is a question, I frequently ask myself as well).

Do you ever get to see 100MB of free RAM?
Does your phone ever gets out of memory?

I ask this, because somehow we always worry about the free RAM, guess this is a Windows habit :)

As far as I'm concerned Android does not have a problem with caching applications.
And it will free some, when you need RAM for stuff.
How long does it take to free memory? Not much in my experience.

Besides, does keeping more data in RAM consume radically more energy? Not at all.

Whenever one starts a new application, if more RAM allocation is needed, the cached stuff might easily get freed.

Also, according to your definition, you already have lots and lots of free RAM :) Which is a happy occurence :) Nothing to worry I guess :)

I hope, this explanation eases your worries a little...

(This was definitely more than one question :P)
