Asus Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL - doesn't recognize conneted headphones

Hi. I have Asus Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL just for a few days, and the same problem, headset isn't recognized at all (tested with 4 different earphones) - music is played from main speakers, no headset icon on a status bar (android doesn't detect earphones)
Is it a software or hardware problem? is it 'a known' problem ? what to do now? try to repair it or send it back (as always, additional time, costs, exchange rates :/ )

Have you already checked to see if anything is lodged in the jack, which might be preventing the plug from being fully inserted?

plugs are inserted correctly (deep) - nothing obstructs them

Does it happen in Safe Mode as well? How to turn on safe mode on Asus Zenfone Selfie ZD551KL. If so, then the jack might have failed.

safe mode didn't help (and a phone is a brand new).
so i guess, safest thing now is to send it back (or contact Asus' service point? but i can cost a lot?)

It shouldn't cost any money if it's under warranty (unless the phone was actually damaged by you).
