AT&T Galaxy S4 : Official Lollipop 5.0.1 Update Thread

Just got the update a few hours ago. Many app icons have changed somewhat and look crisper and cleaner. The phone looks more colorful overall and I think the appearance is improved.

Here are some gripes so far:

1) The button on the bottom left of the phone used to take me to the settings menu. Not anymore. It takes you to a homepage settings menu.

2) My biggest gripe so far. Near the bottom right of my homepages is the "Apps" button. That button used to access both apps and widgets. The widget section has disappeared. I used to have a thin, horizontal google search bar widget on my homepage. It has disappeared and I can't find it. Does anybody know where the google search bar widget has gone?

3) Google Play Music (now called Play Music) kept staying on in the background even thoiugh I never used it. I had to disable the application to save battery.

Edit: Solved #2. I really like the brighter colors in Lollipop. If the battery life is as good as it was prior to the update, I will like Lollipo.

Have you found a way around #1 so that you can customize what this bottom button does? Its stupid how it works now.

I have noticed that on lolli that the bluetooth to my car doesn't send track info anymore. Is there an option anywhere to correct that. (using milk music). I have a 2012 mazda 3

Mine wasn't sending info before the 5.0 update. I have the same year and model car. . Would love to find a solution to this.

I was blind-sided by the update. I had actually given up hope that I would see Lollipop on my S4. After driving 12 hours from FL to SC yesterday (it should have been less than 11 hours with stops except for the numerious serious accidents in Florida), I had a message about an AT&T update. Well I was unpacking and getting things in order so I figured, why not? The update completed and the phone rebooted and then sat with the AT&T logo and the blue light on forever. Checking here I realized that I had just received Lollipop. I also decided it had bricked my phone. I pulled the battery and rebooted with the same results. I let it sit for a long time (at least so it seemed) and logged on here to complain about my bricked phone (and I had planned to search for the nearest AT&T store). As I was typing my post the phone started updating my apps. No warnings for all that time! What a crap way to supply an update!!!!

Anyway my phone seems fine except that certain apps no longer work as they use to...... Guess it is time to do some reading.....

Hello:

Noticed after the 5.0.1 update when I go to Play Store to see my installed apps, I keep getting Check your connection and Try Again. Have to reboot to fix. Wasn't getting that message before the update.

Spring

I have seen others reported the same issue but no fix as far as I can tell. After the update the menu soft key no longer brings up the settings menu. Does anyone know how to configure the soft keys in Lollipop?

As far as I can tell, the only way to return to that functionality is through the use of a replacement launcher. I have Apex Launcher on my phone, and although I'm not using it by default for now, I found that this key will bring up the settings menu as before.

Hi:

Another difference I have noticed is before lollipop, you could move the multi-view tray from one side to another. In 5.0.1 I haven't found a way to move it from the left side to the right.

Spring.

I have double arrows on my one launch bar (one up/one down) that use to turn 4G connections on and off when I did not have a WiFi connection. Now that double arrow icon takes to to data useage and I cannot figure out how to turn on the 4G data connection!

After the update I can no longer access the internet away from a WiFi signal. I used to have a '3G/4G' icon and now just the bars with no icon. I also had full bars at home now it seems I have just one and sometimes none. Also I can't use talk to text with my texting. I've used this phone for a year with no problems. I paid cash and used straight talk for 3 years. I'll clear cashe lie post 8 said and try a factory reset after I figure I've saved as much as I can.
I'm a make calls, text and check FB kinda person. These updated never sit well with me. FB keeps closing after about a minute when scrolling.

Never mind, I found it (how to turn on 4G data). What was once a two step process is now a three step process. How stupid!

I had the same problems, bottom left menu button no longer takes me to my settings where I could quickly change sounds and notifications and check data usage. Now it's like three extra steps to drag from the top down and find settings icon. I just don't like it.

My widgets disappeared, too. My daughter was able to "fix" it, though (have no idea what she did, but they're back on my homescreen again) but now widgets and apps are not in same place so makes it more complicated for me. :-(

And I absolutely hate the new colors, especially the texting colors. ICK! This is the absolute worst component for me!

If I could go back to the way my phone was before this update I'd do it in a heartbeat!!! :'(

I use Straight Talk and I no longer have LTE it often comes up no phone signal at all. Impossible to send data via text. Anyone come up fixes yet?
Mine automatically updated.
Some of the other changes I don't mind, but would like to have a place that tells you what all the changes are.

I want to update my AT&T S4 SGH-I337 to Lollipop.
But when I hook it to my PC (Kies) and also check OTA there is no update.
My AT&T S4 SGH-I337 is running 4.4.2.
Where can I get the Odin file for Lollipop?

Never mind, .. found out there's not sound or vibration if the Text window is open when a Text comes in .......

So, you want to root your phone? Just curious.

Cannot seem to access the two swipe quick settings or any of the Smart Lock features following update to 5.0.1 on my AT&T S4. Thoughts?

I found my problem. When my phone upgraded it switched my APN to AT&Ts. I switched it back and all is good again.

The update has been nothing but a nightmare. I did a factory reset (as the phone would slow down to a crawl, lock up, etc.)
After the reset it was doing ok...until....the constant reboots, the dreaded message about the camera not working and when i try to access the gallery the phone locks up (or reboots.)

So all in all I give lollipop ...5 stars of failure.

UPDATE : I spent like, almost 2 hours with AT&T...then Samsung...then back to AT&T regarding the phone issue. Apparently i'm out of warranty so at&t won't do anything (other than offer me the next upgrade plan. Ummm no.) Samsung's tech support (whom by the way are difficult to understand...for me anyways...said that samsung is aware of issues with the s4/lollipop update.) Of course their website says nothing to indicate this.

Yeahhhhhh.
