AT&T in Notification Bar

When I unlock my phone, I can see AT&T in the top right of my notification bar but then it disappears after a second or two. Why does this happen?

That's just what the software is designed to do. I think we are lucky because AT&T has put out phones (For example, the Inspire) where the AT&T never goes away in the notification bar. There will never be no official reason, it's just that it is how AT&T must have wanted it.
