AT&T Note 3: GPS Signal Lost

I *did* give up...finally. Have gone back to using an iPhone 5S....gave up the nice big screen of the GN 3 for the signal dependency of the iPhone. Have been using the GPS on the iPhone now for three days without a single drop. And yes...I'm still on AT&T's network. Sorry Samsung...better luck next time.

Thank God I use my Garmin for travel and not my Note 3 :-D The thought of being forced to go back to that Teenie-Tiny little phone.....burrrr, scares the heck out of me!!!!!

To be fair, this seems to only affect AT&T, GPS on the note 3 on other carriers (I'm on sprint) seems to work fine, I use it 15+ hours a week and have never had a single issue, my coworker has the Verizon model, and likewise, no issues, it could be an AT&T specific hardware issue. It's a shame you couldn't find a solution, it really is a wonderful device.

Guess I'll just have to stick it out and see what Apple's 5.7 inch iPhone 6 is going to look like....if I can still see after all my squinting looking at the 5S :-)

So all you guys with the AT&T Note 3, did the GPS problem begin the first few times you used it or was it a problem that developed after a while ? I've had my Note 3 for around 2 weeks and the GPS has worked so far without problems. And is there anybody else here who has the AT&T Note 3 who isn't having GPS problems ?

Mine was just plain loosing the signal. While I was using GPS I did not try to call.

I would bet it's related to it switching between 4G, LTE and Edge, etc

I've yet to verify if push email causes it to drop. I think it does as I began really seeing drops when I moved to push vs. Manual checking of email.

I just think it's crazy that I can have my Tom Tom GPS on and my Note 3 GPS on using Goggle Maps or Waze and the Tom Tom NEVER drops a signal in the places the Note 3 drops signals. Yes, I do use both at the same time. Tom Tom for street views and Note 3 for navigation. Sounds crazy but it works for what I need. Just SO DANG FRUSTRATED with the Note 3 signal drops. Hey AT&T - C'mon Man!!!!!

I was using the TomTom software on my Note 3....dropped from day 1 as well. Am in agreement with the others.....any time the phone dropped from LTE to 4G, and vice-versa, the GPS signal would drop and never come back. I had to manually turn the GPS off, and then back on again in order for it to pick up again. Any time I rec'd a phone call...boom...the GPS signal dropped.... Any time the Note 3 switched between either the LTE or 4G...bam...the GPS signal dropped. Quite maddening...although I'm reading that AT&T is working on a software resolution....just not sure when they'll roll it out. There's the hope that it'll be resolved with KitKat but....I've lost faith. Sold my GN3 and am back to the iPhone 5S...with no GPS issues whatsoever.

I drive to work and where I live it is LTE and where I work is 4G. I have been testing my AT&T Note 3's GPS well aware of what others are stating and so far I have had zero GPS signal dropping. I test this also driving home. I bought my Note 3 around 2 weeks ago. I am not sure if I just got lucky or if the latest batches are shipped with it fixed.

Edit: I just checked and the manufacturing date on my Note 3 says 9/14/2013.

I just tested with my Note 3 (I bought it a week ago, manufactured in February 2014) in which I had GPS Status & Toolbox running. I watched the app on the screen and it had a solid GPS satellite lock. I was then going through an area of my city that doesn't have 4G LTE (I was a passenger in the car so don't jump down my throat about looking at the screen while driving), it switched to HSDPA+ (AT&T) and the GPS app kept it's GPS lock with no issue.

Re: GPS Signal Lost

This is absolutely false. The GPS chip in this phone works completely independent of the cellular data radio. If you don't believe me, put the phone in airplane mode then make sure the wifi and GPS are on.

The loss of GPS signal is a know issue with the AT&T flavor of this phone. I had the same issue and contacted AT&T. They admitted that there is an issue with the GPS. They sent me a replacement. I have had it for a few days. So far the replacement seems to be working.

yes, It works without internet connection but this is inaccurate, its is just working because the location you are ..... has maps downloaded, try going to the other places than your home town and then try enabling the GPS without an active data connection and Wi-Fi and let me know what did you see ?? !!

The GPS absolutesly is independant of the wifi and data signal. Your point above is true only if you require online maps.

If one is running mapping software that has the maps already downloaded offline it works fine. Try with Sygic or TomTom and you'll see it works fine.

upon my next trip out of town I'm going to test it out with cell off while navigating as then there will be no cell tower switching to cause a drop. IMO we probably shouldn't be driving, using a GPS and talking all at the same time anyway. Not to mention I always seem to get text messages while driving and that is really distracting.

I still want a fix though.....

I bought my Note 3 a few weeks before Christmas. Didn't take long for my GPS signal to constantly go in and out either. Hopefully AT&T gets this taken care of soon.

Never had a problem today when I was using my Note 3 when I was using Google Maps to get to a friend's house to pick something up. I must have crossed several areas where I was switching in and out of 4G LTE. I bought my Note 3 two weeks ago. Manufacturing date was in February 2014.

GPS should work fine when you have "use wireless networks" checked in location services. Uncheck it and see how great it works on GPS alone. Your better off using the sun or stars. Verizon phones don't have the option to not use cell service so no complaints form them. I'm on my second N3 and plan on contacting ATT to put them on notice this one is junk too. ATT and or Samsung is not doing it for me.
