AT&T or my Cell Phone?

I own the Samsung Galaxy Exhilerate, which is a decent smartphone if you dont want to spend (x) amount of dollars for the new top of the line phones.

It's running Android 4.1.1 and is usually pretty fast. I'd say the speeds are less than or equal to an iPhone 3GS on the latest firmware. It also runs on AT&T's 4G LTE network. Take note that I reboot it regularly once a day.

My problem is, all the time I have problems sending texts, receiving texts, etc. Someone will send me a text and sometimes i just dont get it until 10 or 20 minutes after. Half the time i try to make a call, the call just drops. Wont even dial.

I think "Hey, AT&T's service is spotty. No big deal as long as its my service and not my phone." But, I have a friend with the Samsung Galaxy S3 on AT&T's 4G LTE network who has no problems sending texts, receiving texts, making calls, etc. And he is right next to me. Same with my friends who have iPhones with AT&T. They get service and I dont.

My question? Do any of you Samsung/AT&T customers have these types of problems with your phones? If so, do you think it's because of the network or the phone? And are there any suggestions on how to stop this problem?
