Yes, if HTC thinks they can outsell the S4 by charging MORE THAN the S4 they will be in for a mighty rude awakening.

I am waiting to upgrade to the One, but I will NOT pay more than the cost of an S4 to do so. While I love the look of the One, good hardware is want is most important to me, and I won't pay more simply to have a "prettier" phone.

why do you say "HTC" ? htc doesnt set prices, its up to the carrier

I have to assume that HTC is working closely with the carriers -- at least on this phone -- to position itself strategically against the S4.

If that is not the case, shame on them! I'm available to negotiate for them if no o e is doing it (which I cannot believe).

At these prices I now want to wait until fall and see what Google brings to the table with the Nexus 5.
If I spent $199 now and Google brought something amazing this fall, I would be upset. If the same happend but I spent $250 now, I would be furious.
I'm going to wait and save myself some misery. My One X and I are still getting along!

I agree with what you're saying, but from HTC's standpoint the S4 has a significant brand/name recognition advantage, and the hardware specs of the 2 phones are comparable. Many people will just buy the S4 because they had an S3 or b/c their friends have one or recommend it to them. The Galaxy line is a juggernaut--the One line is not.

Ideally, HTC needs to undercut the S4 price, not compete head to head with it.
The One would benefit by positioning itself as an exceptional value, not just another phone in a high price range.

The bigger point here is that AT&T has increased the on contract price of its top phones by 25% (from $200 to $250) and it's not being talked about...yet.

Leaked internal system pics show that pre-orders start this thursday/friday for $250 dollars, 64gb version not available yet.

Something to support that is the fact that otterbox usa has started orders for their one cases, i just ordered mine. Commuter-Black

Everything is pointing towards online pre-order date of april 4th and the 5th in store, damn I'm going to be up late waiting

The $250 is from at&t only right now, radio shack is showing $199, and the S4 is also $250 for 16gb. I don't get where some of you think the S4 is cheaper, the One gives you more storage for the same price.

Doesn't really matter to me though, I had always planned on getting the 64gb version, and that's priced right where I thought it would be at $299.
