If you're having trouble go into Settings>Apps>Google Messages>Clear Data>Force Stop, then follow the steps again. Also make sure the beta is installed for Messages before trying. My dumb self forgot to install the beta after enrolling.

Did all that and still stuck on verifying phone number.

After I hit apply, I tried backing up, going to home, then force close.

I also switched on wifi after force closing messages and still didn't work.

I started over from the beginning several times, rebooting phone and doing everything and still does not work. Also, have the beta version so that's not the issue.

Figured it out.

I had to turn off my adblocker!

Re: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile have finally agreed to replace SMS with a new RCS standard

This is what I did. I have several extra phones that I change the sim out when I feel like a change. First make sure you have the sim in the phone. Make sure wifi is off. Go to apps and find carrier services, then clear the data from that. Next nake sure you are on the beta of messages. Go to apps and force close messages. Go to activity launcher and find messages. Go to the Set RCS Flags and do the drop down for the ACS Url. Hit apply and back out. Start messages and follow the setup. Go back and start again with the carrier services and the force closing of messages. This time in activity launcher and the Set RCS Flags, got o the OTP Pattern and set the drop down and hit apply. Back out and go back into messages and check the setup. At this time it should verify and give you a check mark in less than a minute. This is how I got iot to work on several of my phones.

Got mine working on my P3XL. Works like a charm

Re: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile have finally agreed to replace SMS with a new RCS standard

I've had RCS going on my 3XL for a few months now, has only worked with my other friends who are on Fi though.

So far, the feature set isn't anything tremendous as most of you know by now (read receipts, typing indicators, better quality photo and video sending), so I'm interested to see what carriers come out of the gate with. Google is slowly but surely adding new stuff to their own Chat, makes me wonder if carriers will try and swing for the fences with features or add them in slowly.

Are you on FI? Are you using the Esim or physical sim?

I got RCS working on my Pixel 4 XL and my wife's Note 9. I will set up my Note 10+ when I get home tonight.

Re: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile have finally agreed to replace SMS with a new RCS standard

Question, do you have to clear data on the Messages app for this to work? I'd prefer not to lose the messages I currently have.
