Atrix Gingerbread Initial Thoughts and Issues

I think having the "screen on" animation disabled makes sense. When I press the button on my phone to turn it on, it is usually because I actually want to use my phone. I want my phone to come to life ASAP. Maybe even yesterday because it was so smart that it anticipated I was going to use it and heck - it's just that fast. Any dinky animations taking up a half second every time I turn the screen on are just wasted time that adds up day after day. Delete that sucka!

As for the "screen off" animation? Who gives a flip. I'm turning my screen off. That means I'm not about to use it. I'm not waiting for it. Take all the time you want with the dinky animation. It will be halfway to my pocket while that animation plays. Couldn't care less.

Lotsa firefox crashes for me after the GB update.

Home button didn't work at first until I re-logged into blur.

I could be wrong, but it feels a bit hotter.

Otherwise, it finally feels like a finished product. Quite happy with the new animations, new music app, and bunches of other features.

Still gotta carry around my spare battery for long days, but I've come to accept this.

Hi all! I have an ATT model, and unlocked with the simple code method (no rooting etc). So I was wondering if anyone knows, and or, has the experience: will updating the phone to Gingebread lock it again? If so, will the same unlock code work again?

Thanks a lot!

I used to have two different notification tones for text/email now I only have one. Has anybody noticed that? Is there a way to have two again?
Also, now whenever im on a call and the screen goes dark I would be able to push the fingerprint button and relite the screen. Now it will hang up! What's up with that? My old phone if I just moved the phones position it would lite. Can that be done with this phone?

Try going into your settings from the homescreen, then go to "Accessibility", and look for the bottom "Power button ends call". Is the checkmark selected? Uncheck it, if so. Then try hitting the fingerprint scanner during a call and see if it just lights up the phone.

As for the other question, the phone has a little bitty circle at the top right (to the right side of the front-facing camera) (right of the earpiece), which is the proximity sensor. It should, when something blocks it, make the screen turn off, which should happen when you hold the phone up to your cheek/ear/head. When you move the phone a little off so that the sensor isn't blocked anymore, it should light the screen again.
I've actually recently, (since GB update), had it light on me on accident and my cheek pressed buttons during the call. Kind of annoying. Maybe I've been holding the phone differently lately. Or GB made it more sensitive. Don't know which yet.

Thanks for the info. I looked and the box is un-checked, so not sure why it would still do the hang up. Pretty annoying.

Since updating from Froyo to GB, I've noticed two issues. One, some of my Widgets aren't as responsive as they used to. My beautiful widget clock, battery widget and others do not refresh automatically. Two, phone has the tendency to freeze when I play a YouTube video through the YouTube app & music through Amazon music player. Are they not updated to be compatible with GB?

The big issue I've come across is the loss of (free) tethering capability. Used the old APN method with GB and it won't connect. Maybe the good folks who figured out the last one will find another way.

My phone no longer will vibrate when I receive a text message and phone is on silent mode.

Have had a bit of good and a bit of bad with Atrix/GB.

Phone 1 = husband's phone, purchased July 7. Worked great up until this past weekend. Thought the facebook app was having problems, so I uninstalled and downloaded again. It would flash repeatedly. Seemed to have fixed it. Then the screen began to have a horizontal line through it. When turning off and back on, lots of blue flashing behind the Motorola M when it was booting back up. Took it to the AT&T store and since we were still in the 30 day window, they let him do an exchange.

Phone 2 - The new Atrix we exchanged it for already had GB on it. Did the setup in the store. Took it home and did a bit of reconfiguring. Went out that night. Heard a noise and realized that it had power cycled. No biggie. Mine has done that a dozen times. While out, we were setting back up bookmarks, apps, etc. and it turned itself off and would not come back on. Green light was on in the corner though. Ended up having to take off the Otterbox and do a battery pull to get it to come back on. Ran the battery completely down that night and charged back to 100%. Next day we went swimming and when we came back inside, the phone was off again. Took another battery pull to get it to come back on. Battery was around 85%. The next day while he was at work, this continued to happen and it took a battery pull each time. Took it back to the store that afternoon.

Phone 3 - Took phone 2 back and exchanged it for phone 3 (also loaded with GB). Our salesguy that helps us each time also has an atrix. His has worked fine since the update, but he had one person tell him that his phone was freezing after the update. So, he went and talked to some more of the associates and they confirmed that the Atrix on display had been doing the same thing. I did not get clarification on if he meant freezing, power cycling, or needing a battery pull. The store turned in some kind of ticket. So far, no issues with phone 3, but it has only been 2 days.

Phone 4 - My atrix. Got it right after they first came out. I was late to the update since I have nowhere with wifi. We even sat at McDonald's one night for almost 30 minutes, but it would only go to 14%. Discovered I could get the update by USB and decided to do it so that hubby and I would be back to the same phone and same set of directions. My phone had charged all night. Did the update about 8:30 that next morning. After it updated, I played around with it just a bit at work. I was very surprised when I got a low battery notification. Decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and just run my battery down all the way and charge back to 100% since I had seen some battery issue threads. Only took about 5 minutes to go from 15% to shutting itself off. Plugged into computer. No response except for the green notification light. Computer wouldn't recognize it. However, every 10-15 minutes, it would boot up on its own. Guess the trickle charge would charge it just enough that it would try to start up, but the boot would use up all the battery. USB kept trying to recognize it. Annoying. Hoped it was just that the computer couldn't charge one from totally dead. Took it home and charged it on the wall charger. Used it again that night. Seemed to be just fine. Stayed up until almost midnight and made sure to run it completely dead again. Charged it off, overnight. Battery is fine now. Maybe even better than before. Been off charger for over 7 hours and is still over 80% with a bit of light use.

Overall thoughts... excluding the malfunctions from phone 2 and phone 4 right after install, I am pleased. I like the looks of things a bit more - I like being able to clear individual things from the notification bar - the lyrics with the music is neat - menu bar at the bottom is cool. It does seem a bit faster to me. So, pleased, but nothing that really wowed me.

Okay, after playing with it more, I have a few issues and a few things I like better.

Issues:
Does not vibrate if phone is on silent when I get a text message. All settings have been checked.

Camera does not make a noise when taking a picture. All settings have been checked and tried multiple ways.

Big Like!:
Stock text now brings up a list of recently used recipients when you send a picture by text. Also shows smiley as a face, not a symbol.

Just switched over to an atrix friday and I had no issues with the gingerbread. very easy to work. still a newbie at it thou.lol:D

- Battery life is much better
- Social Networking doesn't show updates for Facebook or Twitter on a timely basis (hours later!)
- Picture folders disappeared but ability to make folders now
- Much faster changing screens

Is anyone (other than me) having issues with Social Networking not updating? I added the Social Networking widget for Facebook and Twitter but it doesn't update. It worked fine with Froyo but not at all with GB.

I also had problems with Motorola's Social Networking widget after the GB update. Originally seemed like it was working fine and then for the past 5 days or so, it started acting up and not showing some items. In my case, it was mostly LinkedIn stuff that never got shown on the Social Networking widget. Eventually they totally disappeared.

This AM, I cleared the application data for "Social messaging" and rebooted right away. So far, so good. Everything seems to be back to normal. I don't know if this will hold though.

Update: it is still screwed up. And like Pierre above, I think the social networking widget does not display everything, at all. Missing lots of updates, not only from LI, but also FB and Twitter.

in the last two or three days I've had an issue occur on 3 calls. I can not end the call with the touch screen. Seems like the entire phone locks up a bit or "hangs" until either the other person hangs up or I pull the battery! I can not even sleep the phone to get it to refresh!

Not sure if its a bug, glitch or hardware...anyone seen this? Maybe its my settings?
