When trying to activate number sync I receive the error above. I bought the watch outright from ATT with no activation or anything wanting to do it later from home.. Did anyone else have this error, if so how did you remedy this issue?

I get the error when trying to get my Sync code. Att has not been able to help...They have tried to sell me a new line to remedy the issue.............

Same here. Called support without a resolution. Gonna go to the store now.

I had same problem. Make sure you have the most recent update on your watch. That cured it for me. I was also told you must have a contract for it to work properly. Not sure that is true but you may need to check.

It is up to date and I was informed you only need the numbersync service of $10 a month and a simplechoice plan at the store when I purchased it.
I will make sure to double check though, thanks.

If you're purchasing the 4G version of the S2 and want to take advantage of AT&T'S Numbersync feature, you're going to need a service plan and activate the watch, which has it's own simm card.
The $10.00 per month is to add a device on your family plan, the numbersync feature is free.

What's annoying about this is 3/4 reps have said the complete opposite of what you just said. But I am beginning to see that your suggestion may be the only way. Which would not be an issue but currently in the middle of buying a house and ATT can't tell me if adding the device will require running my credit again, which normally is not an issue but htey make you sign a paper saying you will not do anything to affect your credit from now until close......

You're adding a line and they might do a credit check and I know this isn't the best time for you to have your credit dinged for this.
But they're supposed to inform you prior, because you have to give consent.
My 2nd Gear S watch and each time I added and got a new cell number for the watch.

Yup I understand that, was just misinformed multiple times about what was needed. Called today and I am approved for up to ten lines from my initial credit run so it is now activated. Numbersync won't find a sync code for some reason but I will look into that tonight.

The reason I was so cautious is when I was with t mobile they ran my credit when I added my gear S without telling me, they used original info from the file so I was passed off then and am cautious now.

Thanks for the info about needing a line. It now connects to 4g so I'm half way happy now.

Hope this isn't a corporate account, because it's not going to work.
You need to go online to your AT&T account and turn on the feature for your cell number.
Call AT&T and make sure that the feature is turned on and everything is good on their end.
Now try again to get a sync code and keep in mind that code is only good for 3 minutes as you have to sign into your the code in your account

Thanks I should have explained more. I want to get it working on a standard account with an unlocked non HDVoice phone. I have an unlocked Priv from Amazon. I avoid carrier phones completely. I did get it working, I borrowed a phone with HD voice than put my sim in and set up numbersync with my priv. Put my sim back in and it has been working just fine for the past hour now. My account online even shows my priv as the device now. Was fairly certain HDvoice was just a way for ATT to force you to have one of their phones.

Thanks for the help.

You're not going to have any luck if your phone doesn't have HD Voice capability

What do you mean? It's working perfectly fine. I have used it for a couple calls and texts with my phone on and also with my phone off. No issues at all.

All HD voice (VOLTE) is, is a way to remove dependencies from the old 2g spectrum by transmitting voice and data over LTE. No matter what with numbersync your data is now passing through ATT cloud servers and is being converted to the same format whether you have HDvoice or not. The only limitation HDvoice would cause is if the data to the watch was only sent on those specific LTE bands, which is a possibility. But my phone has those bands and uses them it just does not use HDvoice.

glad it's working for you, because one of the main requirements is that the phone has HD Voice capabilities. Maybe you did peep AT&T's hold card on this one issue with the HD Voice requirement, trying to trick peeps into getting a newer phone when it's not necessary/

Yeah the few things I learned about communications getting my comp E degree pointed to it not being a true limitation unless they had an end to end encryption that could only be decoded by an HDvoice enabled phones.

Then I looked deeper the Gear S2 actually does not have HDvoice in anyway, it actually only HSPA+ bands so it isn't true 4G and does not even use band 17. Researching even more, the are just using an end to end forwarding for the calls with their server acting as the hose again no HDvoice required for that as call forwarding is fairly standard and also they state it is not a data call so it does not use VOLTE for that. Messaging would have been the only problem but they are just using their cloud SMS service that works for all phones to push the message out to the watch. Basically they forward it to your gears number. Then intercept anything going out and change the number.

The Blackberry Priv doesn't support AT&T messages so I can't use numbersync with it until it's supported. I returned the watch.
