ATT next question activation delay?

I pre-ordered my n7 at target. To get all of the deals I need to use a next upgrade. I plan to payoff the phone in full asap but the upgrade line is my mother's phone who lives away from me. She won't be with me at the time of purchase. Does anyone know of activation of the sim can be delayed to allow me time to mail it to her? Otherwise her phone will be deactivated upon purchase.

Thanks. The other alternative would be to buy outright but then I lose the deals.

Can you just get added as an authorized user online? That way you can do it. Not sure about the delayed activation. Not even sure I understand. In most cases if you're not on the account and the owner isn't present they won't let you buy the device. Even sometimes on outright since they have to record the account the purchase was made for. Not sure all retailers to this but it could come up.
