ATT S3 update

I have mixed feelings about this OTA and those Apple Assholes. The modem fix is one thing, its great, but removing a feature from a phone that has been bought and paid for and doing it in a Apple Slinky Way that's being done is detestable. The device belongs to the owner already. If the change is made to unpurchased inventory, IMO that's one thing, but the phone was purchased with a feature set.
The way this is being done is distasteful, unsavoryand with no respect to the consumer who has made the purchase already.
Once again, Apple is trying to dominate the world of technology. Sure there are workarounds and those marvelous folks from XDA will come up with a.miracle or two. In the meanwhile, its just plaintiff simple wrong. The phone was sold with a feature set. They have a obligation and responsibility to their customers who purchase the device, and they don't have a right to force a change because of Apple.

I still have not received the update, i check for updates and i am told it cannot connect to the update server and it says it will check automatically in the next 48hrs. Not sure if this is bad or not, i like the universal search, but i would like the radio updates as well.

Ugh, I'm really holding off on updating but I know its inevitable.

Being new to Android I'm even sure what will be lost by doing the update. I've been postponing it until I understand it.

I have not got the ota updated so I hooked up to my computer and went to keis and it said I had an update so I did it and I'm not sure of any changes. It said 100% when done but I when I use the search bar it still brings up stuff on my phone. And keis says that I'm up to date is there a new version number attached to the update. Was the phone sapposed to reboot or anything course nothing happens.

This was a pre-emptive defensive maneuver on the part of Samsung. It was necessary and smart from a business perspective. In other words, they had no choice. Apple filed their injunction against the Galaxy Nexus like five months ago. It takes time to get through the courts. Apple tried to lump the SGS III in with the HTC phones a few weeks ago and the judge told them she didn't have the time to add it in on such short notice. So the SGS III went on sale as planned.

There is no doubt in my mind that Apple has since filed a similar injunction against the SGS III. This is Samsung's flagship phone. The are counting on this phone carrying them for the next 8 to 12 months. If they puff out their chest and wait for the injunction to get through the courts, they risk having their #1 moneymaker banned. Even if temporarily, it's still going to cost them millions in revenue.

Samsung is a company. Their #1 goal is to make as much money as possible. Altruism doesn't come into play here.

Bottom line: If they didn't make this change now, they risk losing millions a few months from now. It's not worth it to them to fight for such a small feature. If the courts later determine that Apple's claims are frivolous, they'll bring back the functionality.

I still don't understand why apple just isn't going after google, instead going after manufacturers....

The universal search is a feature that has been in EVERY one of my 8 android phones I've had...

I was kind of hopeful that Alex Dobie or Phil and Bla1ze, would make a comment. Remember what happened with the OneX? , it got caught Up in Customs, and Apple caused it to be witheld from Distribution...Thats New Merchandise. This is different, The Universal Search was "Coupled" to a Update. IMO, they should have been separate Issues, giving us the choice whether we add it to our phone.

I think AT&T has something to do with this as well, I would not be suprised at all if thats correct, after all, AT&T is Apples Biggest Vendor, but unfortunately as it stands, in order to fix the modem (Radio Update) you have to lose Universal Search, and that sucks. What really sucks is the opportunity for Apple to remove Software, and AT&T is permissive, or as I called it earlier a ("Feature Set") from a Phone that has already been bought and paid for by a consumer is now being removed. My transaction was with AT&T and Not Apple, and Clearly its my Merchandise, it belongs to me- not Apple. I do not do well with "Force"

because google would rip them apart in court...google literally invented universal search...

remember that old google desktop search? which eeventually became useless because windows 7 incoporated that in...but you don't see google suing microsoft, do you?

now google needs to man up and start being a "mountain lion" since apple just filed for a trademark on those words

I just got sprint to give me a $25 credit due to these shenaninans......I let them know i wasn't happy..and even though they aren't particularly to blame...they are since they are the ones that approve all the updates

it's like buying a car, and next time you come in for warranty maintenance they rip out your navigation player saying they shouldn't have put it in in the first place....

My view is once enough credits get issued due to tihs, it will hit their bottom line and then they'll think twice before allowing this crap to happen

Im gonna stand my ground, (sound familiar)- Its not about credits, its about a Forceful Removal of something that was purchased and paid for by a consumer.

If its okay for them to do that, then next time your bedding manufacturer has an issue with someone else they can come to your house and take your bed away-

This is Pure Unadulterated Bull . Theres a right way and wrong way to do things. If Samsung did what the previous poster stated, then they should have made an Open and Public statement regarding this and explained whats going on and their appproach to it, further that if the Apple Bull gets thrown out, they will make it worthwhile your time.

Coupling Apples Baloney to a needed Fix on a brand new device, like the S-3, is a "Low Blow" to all the consumers who support Samsung and AT&T. As far as Im concerned theirs a limit to everything, and this crosses the line.

The Phone was clearly sold with a "Feature Set", this represents a theft of "Paid For Technology" that was part of the Phone Purchase.

I dont want Apple in my Home, thats my right, they now are clearly in my home, they forced their way in, I dont give a damned what channel they used. Just because Samsung and AT&T have one of the Hottest Phones around doesnt give them a right to take something from me, thats been paid for already.

I also dont see Samsung doing anything visable, or showing Customer Appreciation, which would remove them from the frying pan. Maybe they also have forgot the "Value of a Customer"

So it's been really annoying like 5x a day getting the vibrate/popup for the update. I may just go ahead and install it.

Wonder if you can permablock the message just like on the older android phones... Hit more info and pull battery...

I think I got it one time while I was on vacation in the mountains, I somehow made it go away and I have not seen it since. Kind of sux, I want the radio update, I already have the old google.apk to install if I ever get the update. But I have tried everything and no update is available.

Update contents:

Fixed, phone asks for PIN before security timer expires in landscape mode.

Removal of Universal Search as mentioned
