So on the 8th I ported my number from ATT over to my EVO and expected to pay 120.00 ETF to ATT.

MY bill usually comes on the 15th so I called to see if I had to pay an ETF fee. They said yes and I would be billed for it.

I wasn't expecting this but i said to them, I cancelled because of dropped calls and slow internet. (not entirely false) And I don't think I should have to pay an ETF fee.

She told me to hold on and came back a minute later and said my ETF fee had been waived. I couldn't believe it. I said thank you, hung up the phone, and did a happy dance!!!

Saved myself 120.00 just for taking a shot. So after selling my iphone to a coworker for 300.00. I come out with an EVO, a cheaper plan, and 100 bucks to boot :)

So give it a try people. You never know what might happen.

Good job.

I have 3 others on my family plan who aren't due an upgrade until fall 2011.
So I'm kinda stuck. But not really - I'm on a good plan and At&t service is great in my area.

I'm torn between the Nexus-1, Aria or the upcoming Captivate.

Yeah and back when they were Cingular Wireless they were awesome. Started having issues when they became AT&T. Lucky you. they charged me like $200 for my ETF and it was just about over. Jack Holes.

Did you use more than 2GB/month? Perhaps they thought of it as a good riddance.

Welcome to the land of truly unlimited data.

Yeah,
They were actually Att then Cing and then back to Att again.

Actually before they were Cingular, they were PacBell, and I believe (I could be wrong), but before that it was AirTouch (yes I remember the Moto StarTac Elites).

and then you get Ghetto T-Mobile........ I canceled my service 13 days after the month started and they still bill you for a full month even if you cancel early and your out of contract... So Even though I didn't have the phone or service for 3 weeks I got billed for a full months worth of service.... that is B.S........ My bill even states that for the first 13 days my bill was $28 and for one day they show a bill of $32.00... I called and instant messaged with them and if you cancel even ONE day after your month starts your on the line for the whole month....

Depends on where you lived... AT&T broke up into a bunch of different "Baby Bell" companies.... I lived in North Carolina and they were Bellsouth Mobility... Cingular was a group that was formed that basically merged all the baby bells back into a single company, THEN AT&T purchased Cingular and changed the name to AT&T wireless.....

I had them for a couple months thanks to Sucom being merged into AT&T 2002.
Suncom had great CS and rate plans which att destroyed overnight

I never had a problem with AT&T customer service. They are very polite and considerate.

The folks answering the phones were in fact always polite and considerate, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that the scripts they keep to and the service the represent were terrible.

Case in point - I called before I switched to the Evo about poor service and dropped calls (again!) and she asked if I was calling from the device in question and I was told that there were tower outages "in my area" (she meant the billing address/zip code) but I was calling from work, like 10 miles away, so totally caught her in the scripted LIES that AT&T's polite and nice phone support people were stuck telling folks.

I was an AT&T customer for nearly six years before switching finally - there's NOTHING "early" about my termination - I will fight any ETF tooth and nail.

Usally, Carriers can drop the ETF's if you have some sort of history of crap service.

Sprint cancelled my Data card when they realized I hardly ever got a connection and waived the ETF. That was after the 3rd call complaining about it though. This was last year.

Actually, they were forced to breakup because of government antitrust laws.

Results will vary with all carriers.
I had almost exactly the same experience with coverage issues regarding Sprint. Last fall I bought a 3G/4G Air Card because they assured me they had 4G coverage at my office. I didn't. I went down to the local store and they told me that Clear was working on the towers. I called Clear and they told me there wasn't 4G thru them or Sprint at my office. I rode it out because I still had 3G and in certain places I got 4G. Just last month I was on their website and noticed they dropped the 4G plan to $59.99 early this year. I was still being billed $69.99. I called them and the girl told me it was because I had the 4G plan. I said No, go look at your own website. She looked and then said that my plan was for the Aircard I had. I said you need to find out what's going on. I spent an hour on the phone going back and forth with her that they updated their plans and I should only be being charged $59.99. She insisted it was because I was on an older plan. I said fine put me on the $59.99 plan. a month later they finally credited me back only $20 for all the time I was still being charged $69.99. I had to really arm wrestle her, and many less informed people would of probably never even known better and kept paying $69.99. btw. I'm just now getting 4G at my office, and it's still to off and on to deal with it.

There's my Sprint rant.
I have had amazing service with Cing/Att for 5+, and know many others also.
Like I said; results will vary.
Ask your doctor if Att is right for you.
Stop using Att and contact your doctor immediately if you suffer swelling or bleeding eyes.
:D

Got etf refunded

WOW after being tired of ATT's worst services i just GOT the hack out of contract, oh yeah att reps are professional and showing courtesy, IT only lasts as long as you tell them how much their service suxz. Has anyone else had every call out of 10 disconnected randomly and sometimes over and over, and sometimes calls just dont go thru, oh hell I had enough so i just PARTED and upon hit by ridiculous 325$ ETF i just filed with BBB, i think theydid a damn good job, because at&t called very next day and refunded ETF entirely along with last month bill. If AT&T services suxs in your area, dont feel bad askin BBB to resolve your issue, if its legit, they will help you get thru it.
:)
