Can anyone comment on speed/performance that you are getting with tethering off your atrix? Thanks to sprints announcement I have to make some changes to both home Internet and mobile.
For mobile, trying to decide between tethering off of atrix or tring pay as you go mobile broadband card with Verizon. I just hate to give up unlimited data on AT&T since I was grandfathered in and loose it if I add tethering. Trying to balance performance and price
Thanks

Jim

I occasionally tether with my ipad 2 eventhough I'm on 2gb plan lol the speed is the same as on the Atrix itself. also I was concerned about battery life but tethering doesnt seem to affect it much. I dont usually tether for long periods of time though maybe for 15 20 mins while on the train or in places where there is no wifi... most of the time I'm on wifi even with my Atrix...(work home )
but like I said the speed and performance is the same as on the Atrix itself. it depends of course on the area whether you're getting a good or a weak signal I'm in NYC so most of the time its fast (HSPA+) and if you use it for a few minutes straight the phone gets a little hot but thats expected as there is even a temperature indicator on the tethering app.

Thanks for the info... Because of where I live.. Very limited with Internet choices, for a while, only options was sat. Internet or cell wireless. So I've had sprint wireless card for 4 years or so now at home as only Internet, but with sprint announcement I'm hosed on that. With sprint card, I could work from car or another location and handy. Outside of figuring out home Internet, was looking at options to to work from car or different location. Wasn't sure if tethering could be a solution if I needed a connection for a week or 10 days or should look at the Verizon pay as you go. I wouldnt need to do this regularly but at times.
Thanks for the info

yeah.. but make sure you dont dl/up too much data otherwise those guys gonna text you with warning and switch you to tethering plan like they do now especially with grandfathered plans... I barely go over 1 GB on my phone so I think I should be OK so far they havent texted me... which device are you planning to tether? if its a laptop then I think it will eat more traffic than say an Ipad or any other tablet.. you may want to disable flash and maybe some other plugins on the browser then.. (like ad banners and stuff)

I don't think I could get away with not changing plans to a tethering plan when I'd be using it for work, outlook, putty sessions, web browsing...would make it obvious I think. Just hoping I could find a reasonable solution when I'm working on road/not at home. But wouldn't be every month...maybe 3 or 4 times a year
