You did a good thing. In all my years of dev'ing... This rarely happens! Thank you!
Drew, glad you can use it! If you need a third, let me know, lol... Just kidding.
I am however looking for any phone with a bad ESN for dev purposes. If anyone has one, not an Optimus, I would be glad to take it off your hands.

As I told my wife when I mentioned to her that I was shipping out the un-needed Optimus today, with this phone getting Gingerbread now, it'll likely have at least another ?year? or so of life? I figured if I can get 6 to 8 more months from my Optimus and continue swapping roms, and using the new VH radio once it's done...it would be a very worthwhile investment.
I had to go back in and save some text msgs before I did a factory reset on it, but everything is cleared on the phone, it's in Airplane mode...battery is 2/3 charged -- and not being shipped inside the phone -- and still running stock 2.2.2 without the update nag.
Here's what happened with the eBay transaction/Paypal...
After all the issue of getting the eBay phone swapped from his account (the seller) to mine, and Sprint telling him they no longer did that because of people stealing phones/getting the $0.00 phone and selling it for $100 or whatever, we finally convinced them to swap it..
All is good, right?
NO.
He calls me yesterday, around 11am...asks if everything got sorted with hooking the phone up after he hung up with me the day before..I said yeah, everything went ok and the phone had to be subsidy reset in order for data to start working properly -- I could make calls just fine, but sending text gave me error 67..or 97..something...but we got it fixed..
He said that Paypal was screwing him over the money. I asked what was happening, and he said that Paypal contacted him, told him that he needed to show proof of purchase...he told them that he got the phone online, for free, and there was no receipt that he could fax, other than the shipping invoice with his name on it. They said no, they needed proof where he purchased it..which he didn't save--thought he didn't need that to sell the phone to an individual...
Paypal said if he didn't have that, then he would have to let the money be put on hold for 6 months before he could get the funds into his bank account. They said it was some policy..blah blah...and that it had become a problem with people snatching phones and selling them, so they have this waiting period to insure the phone can be activated I guess..
He asked would I be willing to let him refund me the money, then turn around and send him the money another way (ie, moneygram, money order, whatever)..so he didn't have to wait 6 months for the $130 to clear. He said he trusted that I wouldn't take off with the money, which I wouldn't do..and he would send the refund when he got off work at 6pm yesterday..
I got email notifier saying the money had been refunded.so I took off to Wal-mart and went to the ATM with my Paypal Debit card..drew out $130, paid $11 and sent him $120 in Moneygram...
Finally this deal with the Optimus I ordered is over. He has the money..I've had the phone a lot longer than he's had the funds for it, but it's all cleared up now. Phone works on my account just fine, he's paid in full, and we're settled...
Glad I'm an honest guy, or that could've turned out much different. But I couldn't sleep at night knowing I got over on someone like that..(I don't sleep at night anyway, but beside the point)...I got a family -- that seems to be growing..pregnant wife..couple of kids in school..and I'm a stay-home dad..
Long story short, this one eBay phone caused about 3 days of hassle between the sellers problems and my problems..but neither him nor myself had problems with each other. We both had problems with Sprint, then he had the Paypal crap...
