Audiophile needs help...

Hey guys. I'm still loving my G2, but am two days away from my 14 day return policy expiring. I keep finding myself intrigued by the "BoomSound" of the HTC One, but didn't purchase one because the phone came out in February and I've heard lackluster battery life. Is there any way (through an equalizer or something) to make the headphone audio of the G2 comparable? I love everything about the G2 minus the sound quality (and am a big music person).

For us audiophiles I'll always recommend a portable headphone amp. Even a very low cost one like this will give you a marked improvement. Now, that may be a little too much audiophileness for what you're seeking so the next cleaning thing, I'd think, would be adjusting the EQ settings until you find something that fits just right.

I'm also struggling with the polarized screen of the G2. I didn't really notice until I've had the phone in a car mount. I have to take my sunglasses off to read the screen.

Thanks for the audio stuff! Am definitely going to check it out.

So...I am debating taking the G2 back and spending a week or so with the One to compare. Thoughts?

Boomsound has nothing to do with headphones. It's HTC's proprietary speaker tech on the front firing speakers. If you're a real audiophile, you would be more interested in the 24 bit, 192khz capability of the G2.

If your into rooting, i read on the xda forums there is some coding you can alter to greatly improve sound. Might be worth a look but if your unsure id check the htc one out. Although I feel the g2 is better you should evaluate for your self

Thanks a ton guys. I really like the G2, but am finding myself really intrigued by the Droid Maxx now. The hands-free features and Google Now listening are really things I could see myself using. What do you guys think?

The Google Now Always On listening is part of kit kat. The s800 processor in the G2 can implement that feature with its quad core processor in a sophisticated way that minimally affects the battery. This is similar to the Moto phones except the Moto phones have an extra processor that is really small to allow Always On without excessively draining the battery. The One has the s600 processor... it does not have the extra processor of the Moto phones nor the extra ability of the s800 processor which means even through the One will get Kit Kat, it seems to reason that Always on might need to be limited or really drain the battery. We'll get Kit Kat on the G2 soon enough... especially if you root. You could then get Always On and better music. Just a thought.

Hi,

Any phone with an LCD will have issues with polarized glasses.
I have a Nexus7 in my car but by accident found a screen protector that reverses the polarization so I can now see the screen when wearing my Maui Jim prescription sun glasses.
You might try a couple of screen protector brands to see if that helps.

Also rotate the screen 90 degrees.

AMOLED screen do not have this issue. They just exhibit a shimmering effect.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Also, thanks to the OP as I debated over the exact same issue before pulling the trigger on the G2!

Sounds to me you just won't be 100% happy with whatever phone you have LOL. No way I would trade the G2 for a One! You get so much more with the G2.

There are just so many upsides to the G2. I won't lie and say I didn't think about the One Max for a couple seconds when I first saw it. However, since I've put Action Launcher on my G2 ... I just haven't looked back. I only use the phone speaker for talk radio while I'm moving around in the mornings. I am debating on getting a portable bluetooth speaker to have around the house, but not sure if its really necessary. I'm plugged into my home stereo through AUX. I'm also plugged through an AUX cable while in the car. So the phone speakers really haven't become as big an issue as I thought. I also purchased a Pebble watch, so I don't find myself using the phone speaker much at all. We all made a great choice going with the G2 .

Fwiw the headphone jack on my G2 is more audiophilic sounding than my S3, my Rezound with Beats audio turned on, but not as good as my Droid Charge. It doesn't sound equalized like the S3 or Beats. The Charge had a cleaner, clearer sound than the G2, but I think it had a fancier dac.

I'am an audiophile and I highly recommend PowerAmp app for music. It plays all file types and has a built in EQ nothing spectacular about the EQ but it get's the Job done.
