Have you tried just forgetting the connection to your WiFi and redoing it? You don't mention that so I have to ask.

It's odd that all of this started after changing from your normal router to a hotspot and back again. Most people change connection methods at least a few times a day if not more so it seems unusual that this would have affected your connection in such a way. Resetting your network connections will do just that, it will cause you to have to log into every saved connection you have again as if it were your first time connecting. It will also forget your device connections and preferences. Like ear buds, car stereos, and if they are just for calls or for calls and media.

I found this article if you would like to read more.

What does resetting network settings do?

On most devices, resetting the network settings deletes all the internet, local network and paired device settings it has saved. This isn’t a factory reset and none of your files will get deleted. Just the configuration settings for any kind of wired or wireless network.

I wouldn't call any of it horrible or expect it to have a lasting effect, unless it's a connection that you cannot remember the access code for it should be painless.

I did try forgetting the network. that did't help. I don't think going fom the hotspot and bac kto network is what caused it bc I do it several times a day (it's in the gym in my building) and it's always been ok. i don't take the phone out of the house. I don't understand what you mean by local networks?
I think i should be ok resetting bc i don't use ear buds, blue tooth, car stereo. I only use this phone as a backup browser and to read things online. and do email. It has no phone number associated with it at all. i use a free texting service with an app. that's it.

So i don't have other connections that need to be saved, right?

Myonly other device is my laptop and 'i'm connected fine to the network. so it's the phone that is a problem somehow. I only have a laptop and that is the problem.

What do you think could have caused this? That it won't recognnize my network?

if tomorrow ican get on the hotspot in gym, does that tell us anything about what might be wrong orit's irrelevant since it's another network entirely. I think the password get accidently droppedout of its place where it is typed because it was missing when this happened so every time i typed it in it said authentication failure. i have fine motor control problems and might have touched something by mistake that got it erased.
Would you do a network reset?

I didn't say local networks that is form the article that clicking on the link takes you to. I just used an excerpt to give you a summary of the article. It was supposed to help put you at ease about resetting your network.

In the meantime, yes I agree that resetting your network settings will not cause any harm and if you want more information about what you can expect, click on the link and check out the article.

It could have been anything. There really isn't enough to go on to try and pin point a cause. Let's see if you can get reconnected and we'll go from there. Yes, if forgetting the connection and trying to establish it again failed I would try the next thing, resetting my connections settings and trying to connect again.

Let us know what you find.

The links are all or any of the Green texts.

In the meantime B. good thought on the router reboot, especially since there was mention of this not having been an issue in the past. It would seem that something has changed.
