So that tells me that no 3rd party apps are responsible, either have to try factory reset, something blocking the view of the proximity sensor /hardware issue .

Contact Samsung
Nothing is wrong with the sensor since it does react it just doesn't do it automatically.

It seems a lot of my problems I've had on this site never have reached any real resolutions. I may just have to get a new phone at some point, one that isn't budget/midrange that is prone to all these issues.

There are steps you should try when trying to figure a problem like factory reset.
Just because it reacts to you sliding it up or down the brightness doesn't mean it's working properly as it's not doing it in Auto mode. Definitely I would go for a flagship device but sometimes they have their own issues but do think it will be more reliable and have a better user experience

I do understand that. I am just afraid of doing that because of how much of a last resort it is. How long it will take to get all of my files and settings and apps back. And also if it doesn't even fix the issue and I essentially just wasted all that time.

I definitely understand but if this issue is truly bothersome I would definitely try it , use PC smart switch to back your device fully and only things u might have to add back is bank apps log in

Is that an app for Windows? I have an app called that that I used to transfer my A11 to my A23.

The factory reset did not fix the issue..

You are absolutely certain that Adaptive Brightness is supposed to adjust on its own without having to reset the toggle or turning the screen off and back on?
Hopefully the factory reset fixed some of your other problems.

Yes that's the way it works

The factory reset actually did not fix any of my problems and if anything caused a few things to break that I had to spend most of my evening last night fixing. I do appreciate your help though.
