Auto-Brightness not updating?

Howdy,

Anyone else having issues with Auto-Brightness not adjusting itself all the time? I'm sitting with my phone on my desk face up and when I turn it on, it's very dim. I check Auto-Brightness and the box is checked. However, if I uncheck it and recheck it, the brightness will adjust and it will be come much brighter.

This has happened to me multiple times and I'm just wondering if there's any sort of known issue with this at all.

Thanks.

Yeah - similar for me on the S7 Edge. I have read that Samsung's auto brightness isn't the the quickest. Last night, I turned the bedroom light off, and it took a full 20 seconds to dim to the 10 or 15% it's set at for that environment. Mine does seem to adjust quickest if the changed in brightness is less though, which is the more common occurrence.

I used to use Lux in the play store - works very well instead, once you set it up.

Oh, mine just sometimes doesn't update at all. My phone was sitting on my desk for about half an hour and didn't do anything. I simply tapped the Auto brightness checkbox twice and it jumped up a bunch to brighten up. Normally it seems fine but every once in a while it just stops updating.

Yeah, it is odd. The other thing I've found is that outside during the day, in everything but very overcast conditions, its 100%. If you think that's a tad too bright and try to drop it to about 90%, it ranks straight back up and gives you a message saying that your screen is being optimised for sunlight or something. Rather annoying.

Mine will lower brightness in low light but will not increase it in bright light unless it is horizontal. This appears to be a common problem with Samsung phones. I use a free app to auto adjust mine.

Yeah it doesn't work as well as it should and it leaves me scratching my head. Don't they see these problems in their labs and factories too? I have never understood how obvious things like this sneak out the door unaddressed.

Mine will go to bright from dim when i turn the light on but will not go back to dim at all after light in the room is turned off. Itll stay on bright until i lock unlock the phone. Imho, no one does auto brightnes as fluid and functional like apple

It didn't sneak out the door, is a Samsung trademark. The need to use Lux goes back to at least the S3. I ASSUMEd they'd taken care of it by now.

Mine does same thing. Have to uncheck autobrightness and check it again for it to update.
You would think by 2016 they would of figured out how to make autobrightness work correctly by now. Lol
We know it can be done because there's apps that can do it pretty good.

yeah that's a pain in the *** for me as I work outdoors and the auto brightness always goes to 100 killing my battery

I tried 'Lux' again, which I'd used on the Xperia Z3 & LG G4 in the past, but this has a glitch when used on the S7 Edge - when you use the Edge screen, whatever is on your screen doesn't blur into the background, so the Edge features just lay over it, and it makes it quite difficult to see.

I had a look around and I'm now using 'Velis', and it's really, really good. Very easy to set up, the Edge screen works as it should, and it's very customisable - I've found the interface much less finnickety than Lux.

But, yeah - Samsung have nailed a lot of things with new phones, but auto-brightness doesn't seem to be one of them. I've read into it, and it seems the new sensor on the S7 range apparently learns from your usage over time, as opposed to just ranking the brightness up/down depending on your initial percentage choice - but seemingly doesn't know when you've come out of the sunshine and into the gloom until 45 seconds later... :-X

I have the same issue. They need to put out a fix for this. It's annoying

Mine does something similar, although it will eventually auto-adjust the brightness (dimming), but it's variable how quickly it happens - sometimes within 5-10 seconds, sometimes 30 seconds or longer.

Seems quite instant for the other way though - that is, going from dim to bright (eg. from dark room to bright room).

And yes, Apple's auto-brightness (at least on iPhone 6) appears much more responsive.
