Auto dial in messages...

I hate having this auto dial feature where if you have your phone open on a text message and you put it to your ear or cover the proximity sensor even slightly it starts to dial that person. Drives me nuts! Sometimes I don't manage to turn the screen off properly before putting the phone down and next thing I know I am dialling someone. I have tried in vain to find a way to turn this off.

Please someone tell me how I change this!

I really hope this is not another one of the most simple things that Australians can not change...
