"Auto-Restart" doesn't really "Restart" your phone anymore

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this, but apart from asking me to enter my PIN to unlock my phone, the scheduled Auto-Restart is not proper. All my apps are still running in the background and most telling of all, the system uptime clock is WELL beyond however many hours ago the auto restart supposedly took place.

The reason why this is a problem for me is that a true auto restart really does give my phone a performance boost, whereas this cosmetic one does not.

Does anyone know how to make the scheduled auto restart a "true" restart? Or am I the only one experiencing this?

I don't know, but unless there's a bug somewhere, restarting shouldn't make any difference to performance. I only restart my phones when a firmware update forces it. I've gone for more than 50 days between restarts, and have never noticed a difference. (Years ago, however, system resource bugs were common enough that a restart often did help.)

I tend to disagree. If I charge up my phone to 100% and then restart, I always get the best battery cycle even if it's just slightly better. Plus, it does clear up sluggish apps for me.

I understand what you are saying, but it doesn't answer the question

not sure how much of a help this will be, but you can submit error to samsung when it happens again or you can try to make the issue happen on purpose by setting it to reboot in the next 5 min or whatever.
Submit error to samsung members app >get help > error report right after issue occurs

So are you saying that Auto Restart is working fine for you?

I checked mine & realized that the toggle was off. I factory reset my phone & forgot to enable Auto-Restart. I set it up to restart in 2 hours & will check the up time tomorrow.

EDIT:

Up Time did not reset after the Auto-Restart on my s22U. It also does not reset on my Note 20U.

When my auto-restarts, I get a message when I get on the phone that I have to enter my PIN after a phone restarting. I never really paid attention to whether things are running, etc. but it seems to go through the motions once I enter my PIN. I'll have to keep an eye out for it - it should do it again tonight.

If you press on the task button and still see all your previously opened apps after auto-restart, that is not an indication that those apps are running in the background. If you do a hard restart, you will see the same.

They other thing I noticed is after the Auto-Restart, when I enter my password, the phone just basically unlocks with everything loaded. If I manually restart my s22U & enter my password, I get the 'Phone is Starting...' message & the weather widget loads, then the startup program icons like AdGuard & GSam start to appear in the upper left hand corner.
The Up Time resets.

I think @waqqas31 is correct in saying that this Auto-Restart is a cosmetic restart, at least in my case.

I had the same experience from my Note 20U and now my S22U. Note 10+ and earlier devices would still fully restart but finish reloading processes in the background, even before the device was unlocked post-restart.
