bootloader is highlighted, you hit the power button , then it will search for the PG05img then after that will ask you to update

i did that and it searched for the file and it said the normal things it said the first time i thought but it never got to the point of asking me to reboot. it went back to the screen that said fast boot

First off, I love the T-Bolt. I've done the research on rooting the Thunderbolt. I'm looking at doing it this weekend. I took the first update (software 1.13.605.7). I'm having some random reboots when the phone is off. I want to root for the main reasons everyone does (wireless tether, have full control, customized, remove or freeze bloatware, and overclock/underclock the phone). Should I root now before the next update from Verizon or wait and accept it and see how it goes. If I root, is there a fix already for the random reboots or will that come out around the same time Verizon releases their update?

Got my thunderbolt on monday (6/20), rooted with ease on 6/22. The only thing that messed me up at first, is that I needed to close htc sync before starting step 1. Otherwise absolutely beautiful. Many thanks DroidXCon!!!

Problem downloading TB-Auto_root-MR1...please please help a NooB

So I downloaded the HTC sync and TB auto root...
I was following direction before I start the process and open PGo5IMG2 and PG05IMG_downgrade....could not open the second one...I read in another forum to download Win RAR, which I did. Now I can open it only with Win Rar (but it is still show as compressed). Did I do the right thing? or Do I need to extract all the files?
Please help me...thank you

Whether you decide to root now or later is your choice but yes if you root now there is a leaked update for the radio which fixes the random reboots. There is also a leaked update for stock users as well.

You want to leave the pg05img file zipped. Do not open it or extract any files. It need to be placed on the root of the sd card zipped. Download it like any other file and save as is.... do not unzip the file.

I don't see superuser.apk in the TB_Auto_root_MR1 folder. After following all steps it tell me everything is complete and I reboot at that point. No SuperUser in the app draw. Rebooted again no luck.

Is superuser.apk supposed to be included in the folder after i unzip it? Please help, not sure what to do?

you can download superuser in the market - if it works you have root.
also check to see if you have s-off in hboot (you can load to bootloader screen with phone off by pressing and holding power and volume down keys together). it will say s-on or s-off at the top. Also note: if you never removed or renamed the pg05img.zip file it may prompt you to install it - Since you just rooted you probably already did install it, and if that's the case you should decline.

That app is actually in the Marketplace as well. If you can download it and open it, that should mean that you're rooted. I had the same issue when I went through my rooting (for a different reason, probably) and just simply downloaded the app from Android Market.

Edit: Beat to it.. and by a couple minutes too. How did I miss that!?

Will this root method work if I manually installed the MR2 update? If no, is there a) a different root method that will work or b) a way to downgrade back to MR1 then use this?
