Auto-Root for Mac OS X?

Hey everyone. I've been a long time lurker here, never posted.

I found this video this morning for Auto-Rooting a Thunderbolt on a Mac: YouTube - ‪Auto Root For the HTC Thunderbolt on Mac OS X Very Simple!‬‏

But I'm hesitant to try it because I don't see ANY feedback online about it. And I don't know for sure if it works with phones that have gotten the OTA update. Can anyone offer any input?

I wouldn't go for it mainly since I haven't seen it here or on XDA and they are usually the first to post that kind of stuff up.

Yeah, I really don't want to screw up my phone or computer. So if someone could confirm they've used this or seen others successfully use it, that'd be awesome.

I tried it today. Worked fine for me. Keeping the file on my Mac in case i need it again.

After opening the "Start_Root" file and clicking Okay I get the following:

"* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found"

...followed By:
"Checking for phone....
Checking for phone....
Checking for phone....
Checking for phone....
Checking for phone....
Checking for phone...."

My phone was restarted, plugged into the mac, charge only, USB debugging checked.
I've tried unchecking/checking USB debugging while it checked for phone, as well as unplugging/plugging phone back into the mac. I've let the "checking for phone" continue for 5+ minutes with no success.

Any advice?

*EDIT* ..Just wanted to add I am currently running OS X v10.5.8, which could somehow be the issue. Purchased Snow Leopard, I'll see if this resolves the issue.

Personally, I wouldn't use this. Just do the ADB version. It is SOOOOOO easy.

I tried it to see if it worked in case anyone wanted to try but was scared. I got no errors. Im back running Das Bamf no problem

Well, I tried a few more things.
1. Plugged phone into different USB ports...nothing.
2. Just installed Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.3...nothing.
3. Did a few software updates... nothing.
4. Completely reformatted the phone and SD card... (sigh) nothing.

Same message when clicking "Okay":

Checking for phone....

Checking for phone...."

Going to try the ADB version instead :/
Oh, and yes..I did have debugging checked and it set to charge only. Every time.

Update, I just tried a different mac and everything works just fine now. Not sure what the problem was.

yeah i dont think the risk is worth it. just go with ADB. it worked effortlessly for me

It's not a risk. It works fine.
