I noticed that when my tablet goes into deep sleep, wifi off, that the auto wake function doesn't work when I open the cover. If wifi is left on and I guess apps are still running though it does work. Anyone know why? I thought it should auto wake regardless deep sleep or just screen off.

I've noticed the same thing, the power button is required for a wake from deep sleep. I'm also not sure why it happens, would love to hear an explanation if anyone knows.

For the sleep/wake function to work the wifi needs to be enabled during sleep. (I've heard that with wifi disabled during sleep, wake takes many seconds to activate)

Yes I got the updated case and it does the same. That seems silly that wifi needs to be on for it to work. I hope that is not the case but sounds like it is. Did the 1st gen ones have this issue as well?

I didn't realize it until I read this thread, but my Moko case works this way, too. I thought it simply failed to turn on, though it always succeeded in turning off when I closed it. But I usually turn wi-fi off when I close the Nexus. I've just tried it with wi-fi on, and sure enough, it awakened the Nexus 7 when I opened the case. I suspect I'll still turn wi-fi off, since I don't need it when I'm not using the Nexus, but I'm happy to know that the case works the way it's supposed to.

This issue has been widely reported on the Google forums. There has been no resolution. The problem is not case specific. We have no choice but to wait for a fix from Google.

Actually, I found that the auto awake still works with WiFi turned off, but takes at least 10-15 seconds to open to the lock screen. Try it out for yourselves. I can duplicate it over and over. Open the cover after the WiFi has been turned off for a while. It will seem like it is no longer in sleep mode, but it WILL turn on after 10-15 seconds.

That still sorta defeats the purpose of the autowake feature though if you have to wait 15 seconds for it to come on when you can just press a button much faster. I tried it just now and it won't autowake unless I do it twice and on the 2nd time it takes 10-15 seconds to wake.
