Love the phone but may have to return it as I get a crazy loud hissing sound when I plug in my BMW 328i. Is there a setting in the phone I can use to fix? I've had multiple iOS and Android devices over the years and it's been fine. Tried multiple cables too.

Sounds like a hardware problem, probably the headphone jack. If you can eliminate a problem with your deck/aux in, i'd try exchanging the phone.

Strange. Can't you just stream via blutooth? Or could you connect it via USB? Even my Wrangler has a USB port. Your Beamer doesn't have one hidden in there somewhere?

Do you get a hissing sound when using headphones?

Unplug the car charger, if you have one plugged in as well. Sometimes when plugged into a car AC charger and AUX, you can hear the hum of the alternator providing power to the car through AUX... or at least I have in the past. If you rev the engine, and the hum/hiss changes with the RPM... you either need to unplug AUX and use an alternate method, or unplug the AC.

I have a USB ...how do I make that an audio input? I have a 2011 and it only streams calls not audio (no A2DP functionality).

I found that if I max out the phone volume when plugged in it helps a bit.

My head unit is awesome with every other phone. I have not used a car charger and it still makes those noises. I can't be the only one...tomorrow I'm going back to T-Mobile and I'll try another unit and/or another aux in cord.

I have this exact same issue with my HTC One M8 for Windows too. I used my Lumia 1520 in my car since I got it without this issue but once I connected my M8 the hissing began. I thought it was the aux cable because I could use some wiggle techniques and get it to stop intermittently but it would eventually start to hiss again. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I have the same problem using a cassette adapter. It used to be ok, especially if I put the phone into airplane mode, eliminating radio noise. But I think it's gotten worse since 4.4.3 update - now the hiss makes it unusable, even in airplane mode. It's fine with headphones, so it's not a hardware problem.

Unless M8 just puts out too much power for some systems to handle....

If you have a case on the phone, try removing it and then plugging in the AUX cable. A lot of times the case hole around the port is too small for the jacket around the cord plug. That prevents a firm seating in the port and cause hissing, erratic sound, and lost connections. If the cord works without a case, then either remove the case every time or get a new AUX with a smaller plug jacket.

Im a little late on this but you can use any flash drive thats formatted in fat32 or even ntfs as long as the music files on there are in mp3 format the beamer will detect it. USB is an option as an input on your raid just like aux and cd.
