Availability

Iphone getting announced today, and you will be able to buy it on the 16th next week. Preorder on Friday. That's the way you do it.

Apple can do that. So can Samsung. They both represent a large portion of carrier phone sales, so they are the two manufacturers who can call the shots when they want to time a phone release. Heaven help the carriers and their poor reps if the two companies ever decide on the same release date - I think it would be a sign of the beginning of Ragnarok.

What that also means is that if LG tells (for example) AT&T that they want to have product in consumers' hands on the 16th of this month, AT&T will send back a memo to the effect of "the back room of every one of our stores will be chock full of iPhones, and the front door will have 1/2 mile lines of people holding cash wanting those iPhones, and all of our reps will be busy for about a week introducing the latter to the former and our pockets to the latters' cash. Your launch will be handled once things settle down from the iStorm. The 23rd sounds like a lovely launch date, doesn't it? You should shoot for the 23rd. Really. We insist."

I'm still confused on why they stated third quarter when September is the end of the third quarter. Perhaps they meant fourth quarter? Nothing else makes apparent sense.

If really third quarter, why not just say September??

I think the way they worded it during the presentation was a little misleading. He said it will begin "shipping" in the third quarter, with pricing and availability coming in the next few weeks. Talk about leaving some wiggle room lol.

There was that leak that stated Sept 23rd as the T-Mobile launch date, but if it was coming so soon I think they would've said so during the announcement.

No harm no foul now for me. I just realized how much bigger it is compared to the Note 7. The only thing it has better for me is the replaceable battery. For MP3 the Note 7 sounds great to me already so the V20 sound system is no advantage. Note 7 wins for me due to:

1. Display, plus no navigation bar hogging 15% of the display space.
2. AMOLED instead of two LCD displays
3. Apparently better camera on N7
4. Smaller size
5. More power save options
6. Pen is handy (but not needed)

Seems that second display creates more negatives overall than positives.

Does kind of suck that the Note is smaller, but has same screen size, but a bigger battery.

That has nothing to do with my comment.

Simply making an observation, Mike. On the other hand, can it be truly launched when the whole batch is almost immediately recalled. Things that make ya go, Hmmmm. Since I'm not going to buy one, it makes no difference to me.

1. It's a separate screen. It's not taking up any of the 5.7" display space.

2. Yeah AMOLED wins..more saturated, vibrant colors but more expensive than LCD. I don't think LG wanted a $1,000 phone.

3. In certain areas the N7 performed better than the V20 and in others the V20 performed better, so who's to say which has the better camera. But better controls for shots on the V20 that's for sure.

4. If you like smaller phones then yeah I could see why the N7 is appealing. And that's mostly due to the screen being curved and the phone having no side bezels. Personally I prefer a phone with a flat screen -- this is after having used the S7 Edge for the past 6 months.

5. Not sure what power save features the V20 will have. Do you know for sure yet?

6. N7 has a pen and the V20 has a taskbar at the top. It's a matter of personal preference.

Although not stated in this article, I believe the difference is that the V20 will be the first to ship with 7.0 out of the box. The new Nexus devices (or whatever they'll be called) will ship with 7.1 out of the box. So, the V20 will have bragging rights to be the first to ship with an already outdated version of Nougat. But, nevertheless, will be months ahead of any other non-Google device in having any form of Nougat.

And DOA, the Note 7 will be back in stock, the Nexii will be shipping and the iPhones widely available before anyone get actually own a V20.

The changes on Nougat are barely noticeable that I dont think anyone would care about those bragging rights. I hope thats not what is delaying the phone getting released until later.

If that is true V20 is dead. Gotta beat Note 7 back to market. Not many Android people will switch to iphone. Who wants to buy all new headphones?

huh? why would anyone need new headphones? Apple includes a free dongle to plug standard headphones into and many are already bluetooth to they're good to go.

Oh and I wouldn't lose the dongle? I own a couple of dozen headphones and leave them all over the place. I'd never remember where the dongle was and I can never predict when I will want headphones. That's why I keep em everywhere - cars, office, lab, most rooms in the house, just about every coat pocket.
