Available June 4 for $199!

To me the 3g/4g aircards are $60/month and the 3g aircards are $60/month as well, so why is there an extra $10 for the phone. As a rep this makes no sense. And sprint is going to piss people off because not everyone lives in a 4g area and if they do it could be spotty.

I will be decreasing my bill by going to this, and upgrading my services. I am on ATT and pay $120 and don't have internet. Also, just got the notification from Sprint on email.

the extra $10 isnt just for 4g, its across the board, even for simply everything plans. Just got off the phone with my new favorite sprint customer service rep =)

This guy is a moron instead of just saying I don't know he's giving me my upgrade eligibility and everything else I don't need.

This is why I have no confidence in this launch at all. Sprint never prepared these guys?
Is it that much of a secret?!

Is the $10/4G mandatory?
My city is 'planned' for 4G soon, and I dont mind paying when I actually have 4G coverage.

What do you mean by across the board...as in just to have the phone and running service?

if you remember when your pre launched it was the same deal =) they didn't even have info on it after the launch...

I am very disappointed in their pricing!! They didn't charge extra when they went to 3G so why now? And $30 extra for the Hotspot is outrageous in my opinion, I will never pay that much for it... I might have if it would have been $10 - $15. The only smart thing that Sprint did is made these add-on charges and left the original plan alone. Looks like I'll still be using PDAnet!!

yes, $10 just for running the device is what the rep told me, regardless of 4g availability.

However, i see customers who don't have 4g being able to hassle it out of sprint to get this fee waved, much like the free airwaves i got with my pre last year. Thank god i ditched that plastic waste of time.

Not happy about this.

It's frankly BS that they are making me pay a 10$ premium when im not in a 4G area.

I have a Pre now, and I guarantee that I wont use much, if any more data on the Evo than the Pre.

I've tried my best to defend Sprint, but sometimes they just make really boneheaded choices.

What happens when 2.2 is released? Thats not officially my biggest concern especially hearing about the speed improvements. I would love more info on this before I buy!

Gotcha, thanks! I could see this waved as well unless, you are a scheduled city to be getting 4G. Who knows...I'm just happy to be getting the phone. Now did the rep mention anything about Family Plans? Like would we have to pay $10 per phone? Sounds dumb and probably wouldn't be this way, but who knows!

Where I live they have no plans for 4G for a long while. So do I have to pay the extra $10 for something I am not going to get? This might turn me off from getting the EVO and staying with my Pre a little bit longer. Can anyone confirm that the extra $10 is for everybody no matter what or when your area get 4G?

Also, I do travel, so, like this Summer, I might go through 4g areas, what would happen then?

This is still too confusing.

I just got this in my email...it's a Save The Date for the EVO for when I signed up for news.

An optional add-on turns your phone into a mobile hotspot connecting up to 8 devices at 4G speeds for $29.99/month."

Here's the link again that I got it from:
Sprint | News Release

The $10 4g charge is listed as an add-on. This should be something you can add or remove without affecting the term of your base contract.

Yeah it makes no sense to make it a premium add on, and then require it for all Evos even if you're not in a 4G area.

I bet it will be just if you are in a 4G area, otherwise, it would just not make any sense at all!

Could you show us where you found it listed as an add on for 4G?
This is from Sprint's press release, "A $10 per month Premium Data add-on will apply allowing customers to take advantage of a richer data experience than ever before."

You can read the whole thing at Engadget.com.

right, it also says it add-on will apply, and doesn't say "will apply for 4G service", but thats just me...
