Average data usage without thethering.

Whether they told us, warned us or whatever.. The problem with tiered plans / 4LTE is the data caps are TOOO low. I have blown through over 5 GB in three weeks. 'Normal browsing', using video chat a couple of times, and watching a few HULU movies. I'm actually 'scared' to use the phone too much because VZ is griping so and placing expensive prices on the data. I have unlimited data, but I am sure if I use the phone somewhat heavily (like I want to) when the networks get more crowded I will be throttled. I am not abusing the network (in my opinion), but find it stupid to have to 'worry' and carefully tread on my data usage to keep from being throttled ( penalty more than just a billing period now). I should be able to video chat when I want to, VZ promotes it (and video stuff), but then they say they will drop the hammer on you or charge unreasonable fees if you do. 4LTE advanced services use data NOT proportional to what VZ sets caps at...

The biggest difference between 3g and 4g data usage for me is video chat. I can easily blow through 7gig a month on video chat (when I am not on WiFi)

The second biggest change is with more bandwidth, apps like Netflix and Hulu or video podcast become more practical to watch with higher speeds. So, even if you do not use the data now, you might be pushing to that limit soon as new apps come out

Further, moving into 4g, the dynamics of what a smartphone can be used for are changing. It's like the difference between dial-up and broadband. At the time people did not know what you would ever need more than 56kbs for. Now, people could not dream about not having fast speed.

The biggest issue with putting caps like this on 4g is that it will hinder its ability and growth. People will use 4g the same as 3g and will not see its advantages. Developers will not develope radically new data-centric apps because no one will want to pay the data.

By doing this, they effectively reduce their 4g network down to their 3g network and their investment becomes lost, as customer will not see an advantage.

Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

Even if your data usage remains the same, the fact that you're on LTE will improve the overall experience because there won't be any waiting or buffering (or it will be greatly reduced). But by having a cap, no matter how generous it is, users will be more conscious of their data use, and at times opt not to do something they would have otherwise done, for fear of needlessly approaching overage charges. So I think there is an advantage to LTE, even with the caps.

Without an unlimited option, I feel the planned caps are too low. Even I realize that - with my average <200MB per month data usage. To me it's the equivalent of offering voice plans of 200, 500, and 900 minutes, with no unlimited option; there are too many users who will be going over their cap, and will be curbing their use to stay within it.

When I bought my Granddaughter the kin one at Christmas, she only used the wifi and somehow there was a data charge to it. They had to do something on their end to stop the charging. Wonder if there is a correlation???? Are they somehow measuring all the data that comes from wifi and adding it in?? Can they do that ?

Grandfathers or existing doesn't mean to us what it means to them so be careful. We added a data phone earlier this yr and took advantage of an offer attached to it. When the Charge came out, got it and dumped my Blackberry. Apparently I had a Blackberry plan even though it was always called a data plan. Changing to the Android platform(the phone we added.earlier was also Android)made me lose the promo.
