The X I ordered last night will be showing up in a few hours and since it is my first smartphone I want to make sure I get it initially set up right.

Basically I plan on ignoring all 'blur' type features like Facebook/Social Networking etc. I will install the Facebook app instead. My question is, will I be nagged endlessly by blur for these kinds of things or will one "Cancel/Ignore" get it to back off permanently? I've read the reports of blur resulting in duplicate notifications for thngs like Facebook and I want nothing to do with it, nor do I want blur adding my facebook friends into my contacts.

dl another launcher like launcher pro. dont sync phone with facebook. This should help you. First app i dl was launcher pro so I dont know how bad the blur is.

the version of blur (which moto isn't calling their skin anymore) is far better than the previous ones on other phones, i wouldn't worry too much about it and just use the phone and see how you like it, if you don't like the way it works, you can always disconnect the accounts you don't want the phone to aggregate.

it doesn't throw your social network updates in your face like on their motoblur phones, it's quite discreet and in the background. you can also send messages on facebook with it, and it's far easier to do than with the facebook app.

personally, the facebook app for android is practically useless, i haven't installed it on my x, and also took it off my incredible after a couple weeks. you're better off using the moto skin and a bookmark to touch.facebook.com.

Don't avoid something because of what it's called and you've heard it's bad. EVERY user interface is about what some people find intuitive - personally I find MacOS much less intuitive than Windows or Linux but others rave about it. Use the phone, change what you don't like, keep what you do like. It's the Android way :)

I'm actually like the moto blur. I came from a Nexus One which had the stock interface, I played with droid incredible and I can say that motoblur offers a nice balance.

More polish then the stock interface but not as heavy handed as SenseUI

Wow, these are the first positive comments I've ever read about blur, and I've been researching this phone over a month now!! Maybe it's not so bad, though obviously the writer who penned the scathing review at Gizmodo disagrees LOL

If there isn't an image of eaten fruit on the device, don't expect a good review from gizmodo. They might as well have a link on apple.com

It looks more like something Verizon would skin it as if you ask me, the red selector? That plus Verizons red Droid Eyes is making it seem like they did that, all moto did was make the hardware.

the droid branding is heaviest on motorola's verizon handsets.

it was both of them that decided on the look of the device. verizon is not a software company at all, at the most they told moto what they wanted look wise.

To be fair, motorola isn't really a software company either.

You can't avoid all of motorola's customizations, but if you toss on a replacement homescreen and don't use any of the widget/apps then you'll be fine. Most of what they've done is the social aspect, which can be, for the most part ignored.

I went from sense ui which is supposed to be so much more "sophisticated" then motos ui. I like x's ui so much more then sense i dunno how it went for the m-1 never messed with it. I just wish theyd stop saying its not motoblur its something else and give it a damn name already. i liked ninjablur but whatever. X ui is well done i dont even think ill use launcher pro like i did no need.

If you don't like it don't use it. The facebook widget/blur element is great. You don't have to sign in and you can remove the widgets.

I also like the UI. I am not using a launcher. However, the integration piece is terrible. I do not use it but there is nothing bugging me about not using it either. The stand alone apps work fine for me.

ok so i saw this thread exhumed from the dead today and had to update...i installed Launcher Pro when I got the phone but I did end up using the integrated Moto Facebook elements and have been just fine with it. My biggest fear, the FB contacts clogging up my phonebook hasnt really been an issue at all, though I still think you should have the ability to delete them without defriending them lol (which unfortunately is what the phone tells you to do if you want to remove them)
