Awesome battery life! Note 8

The most accurate way to see what is causing the issue is to install one app at a time and wait a while between each... When the problem has come back - then you know the last change caused the issue

I didn't restore because of the battery. Kept having software problems. One time it would not let me log into my Samsung account. Just stuff like that.

The note 8 is blessed with a mediocre battery. Mine no longer drops 20% in two hours with little use. Screen on time went from 3 hours to 6. I'm no longer worried about being someplace without a charger.

So those of you getting screen on times above 5 hours, are you disabling radios and turning screen brightness to 30% or below? basically, are you doing anything to extend the screen on time or is that with normal use over a given day?

I am seeing about 4.5 to 5 hours of SOT over the day but I'm down to under 10% remaining by about 9pm, so I'm not faring as well as you guys.

I keep my 4G data off all the time unless I need to check email or something and I'm not near wifi. Same goes for wifi, when not near a wifi source, I keep it off (I have an app that automatically turns off WiFi when out of range because WiFi constantly searching for a signal is a battery HOG) but when near wifi, it's on most of the time. This behavior started as a way to save data since I started out with a limited data plan and then it just became habit. Now I get 5GB a month with roll over which usually means I get over 9 GB a month to use. Not an issue about saving data any more but my habit is a great way to save battery, so that's the main reason I continue to use my phone in this manner.

Brightness is on auto and I have it trained to be a little on the dimmer side.

I've been doing all of the above things on all my phones for the last 7 years or so.

It's unfortunate we have to do all this for a phone worth grand. A moderate expectation is to have 6 hours on screen time which is not possible without tweaks. My wife have Huawei mate 9 and it just keep going for two days. My productivity with S-pen is stopping me from trying other great phones.

Been the since the beginning

I work in a huge hospital for 7 days 17 hours shift + 8th day 10 hours. . Wifi is an issue. Beside that my usage is above limited:
Screen brightness is around 30%
NO media of any kind including social except for necessary whats app.
Checking emails and most of them are deleted without opening.
2-3 hours max of web browsing.
That will barely get me to finish 17 hours with the phone about to die.

If I go beyond that all i can get is barely a 10 hours.

Its a shame a nearly grand phone can not survive using it's advertised Features!!

oreo made my battery life significantly worse. idk why, I even did a clean install.

But according to this, you didn't do a clean install.

A clean install is not using ANY backed up settings or apps so as not to introduce the problems the apps or settings may have had into the OS. Just like on a PC. A clean install is not using the restore function, it's reinstalling windows and hen installing programs fresh, not from a backup.

well I miss interpreted clean install, I wiped it and then restored as much as I could. nevertheless, that would be absurd to have to basically never sync or use any backups on my Google, Samsung, Microsoft or launcher settings. I thought wiping it to factory was good enough to clean out the bugs. if that's not enough I guess I will never have a fresh running phone again. because I restore my stuff on new phones when I buy them too.

So after a few weeks on Oreo, with my SOT initially dropping 10-15%... the Note 8 is averaging 6 hours SOT... which in my book... is pretty good. I'm on a fast 4 channel wifi at home and office and the VZ signal has been fairly strong. All this helps plus keeping cache partition clearings done on a weekly basis and staying off of social media apps which can be battery hogs. I hope the battery continues to remain strong without degrading fast like previous phones. The Note 8 rocks. Great phone.

I just wanted to clarify for those who didn't know what a clean install was.

I'm not saying to never sync or restore using backups. If you aren't having major issues with your phone and it ever gets stolen or you upgrade phones or maybe you have to send it in for hardware repair, these backup options are a huge timesaver when setting up your phone again. I sync everything on the same services as you. The key is to not restore once you start having major issues with the OS or apps because a restore might just restore the problem as well.

My basic point was that after factory resetting like you did and then restoring from backups, you still have issues, you may need to do an actual fresh install, not using any backups that may also have the issue.

It's such a pain tho so many passwords to remember and redo I'll deal with the bugs and wait for the next oreo update
