I've noticed recently that trying to click on the browser back button does not let me leave an article when reading the comments. I've only seen this with Chrome Version 46.0.2490.86 (64-bit), so maybe there's something going on with the latest build?

An example article where I've seen this is The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will finally arrive in Europe in early 2016 | Android Central

I can be reading the main article, and use back button with no problem. Soon as I'm in the comments section, but not adding a comment, meaning just reading; can't get out of the article unless I scroll all the way back to the page top and click on the main AC header. I can watch the activity bar in the lower left browser corner and see other URL's being referenced soon as I click back so it tells that the page or a portion is being refreshed, but the page does not go back.

I can break open Chrome Developer Tools if someone can tell me the best way to use Network Capture or a different tool to capture the DOM traversal. Maybe by capturing a trace it can help to figure out if the problem is on my end or somewhere else.

Very strange. Tried to replicate in Chrome over here (same build - 46.0.2490.86 (64-bit) ) - and no problems. Was able to use the back button from all areas of the page.

Can you provide any more details?

Thanks James, I will keep an eye on this, and have been looking out for it.

I think it could have been the number of ads/analytics hrefs coming from external site content. They were so slow to respond that the back function was essentially in a wait state pending the hrefs calls being completed. Could very well have been coincidence that I was able to repro the issue that evening on the particular article's comments section and not the main article section.

If it happens again I'll try to see if a Chrome Developer Tools Network capture can pinpoint where the delays are originating.

James, I was able to duplicate again this morning on this article. Scroll down to the bottom of the comments section. Tried to go back multiple times, and can see href content loading up in the bottom left hand corner of Chrome, but the page does not go back. Note that I have not clicked into the Comment field that's present at the bottom of the article's comments.

Not able to reproduce on my end - is it possible you opened the article in a new tab, therefore no 'back' button functionality?

If not - I'll have tech take a quick look... although it's hard to fix if we can't reproduce the problem.

Thanks James, I wasn't in a new tab, but that's a good thought for sure. It's not a big deal, so understand if something like this is low on the list. The steps I took to repro are below. Definitely agree that if I was in a new tab that the behavior could be categorized as "working as designed".

I think this issue can be closed as it is in my view not a priority and a workaround exists - which is in the two cases where it happened for me is to: just to scroll back up out of the comments section and into the main page body.

1. Go to AC main page.
2. Click on an article of interest (the two separate articles that I referenced above).
3. Read article.
4. Scroll down past the ad block.
5. Read comments.
6. Get to bottom of comments section.
7. Hit back button.

Went through the above steps in 2 different browsers - and everything worked fine. Can anyone else reproduce the problem?
