Man, all this new ROM/voodoo/kernel business is making my head spin. I'm having trouble figuring out what everything actually means!

The weekend I brought home my Fascinate, I used Odin to flash to SC 2.6. I'm not particularly happy with how my phone's been running over the recent weeks and I want to upgrade to the latest SC2.9.2 w/voodoo. Do I need to flash back to stock before flashing to an updated ROM? Or can I just follow the standard procedure through Odin to upgrade?

I skimmed through DroidXCon's How To recovery, although it says "To return to stock choose one of the following files then use the application+directions of post #5 in this thread." Although post #5 is the Credits post. Outdated text, perhaps?

What's the procedure here?

Thanks, helpers!

Going back to stock is really easy. i do it all the time lol. Get odin and the stock file from this page: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...eturn-stock-remove-system-apps-other-how.html and then follow the instructions on the page :D

( stockfile: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XCS5LF18 )

(Odin : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J4Y10P6G)

connect your usb to your computer and phone ( remove the battery ) and hold the down volume button until a giant triangle comes up on your screen.
Then open odin then click PDA NOTTTT phone and find the stock file and hit start.

by flashing stock it makes your changes less likely to fail or mess up your phone. ive layered on flashes and updates to my phone and then it got stuck on the bootscreen and i had to flash stock anyway lol

No you do not need to flash back to stock.

Are you going to install SC2.9.2 with DXC package through ODIN?
Or flash through CWM with adrynalines?

Since to me you sound more comfortable using ODIN you can flash SuperClean 2.9, then flash SuperClean 2.9.2 with DroidXCons packages.

Flashing this will not put you on voodoo though since DXC packages are nonvoodoo.

So I'm just going to point to "super_frankenclean_2_9_2nv.zip" using Odin (using PDA and NOTNOTNOT phone) and I'm good to go?

That seems mind-numbingly simple. I can definitely dig it.

dont mock the NOT phone. you will have a lovely bricked piece of samsung if you were to use phone instead of pda.

no you cant use the zip that is meant for clockwork,,, you need to go to my thread and grab the 2.9.2 file...its in the roms and hacks sticky

oh, not knocking it; merely illustrating that I understand which to use and which ... NOT to. :)

that is DroidXCons package right?

Or are you getting that from Adrynalines page?

Well, mere moments later, I'm fully up-to-date.

Which modem version did this ROM include? DL09 or DJ05? It seems DJ05 is preferred, but this is another one of those things where I really don't know what the differences would be.

Thanks, again, folks for helping me out!

Damn didnt read again, if you want to flash a new one, read below. I think the packages have DJ05

The newest that is getting good reviews is EC01 great GPS lock with that one seems to be the overall thought (my observations, not scientific). I have been running it since it was public and like it alot

SC 2.9.2 contains the EC10 kernel, hence the EC10 in the title of the tar file.
