Hello all,

Well scouts is starting up again and so are the camp outs, and without power the cell phone dies off.
Does anyone have a good solar charger option or a portable device that will allow for recharge of a smartphone.
i turn off the 4g option and wifi but after 1 day the phone is dead.

Here once again I miss my BB, it use to last the entire weekend. I should have checked the battery life on my GNx before I bought it. ohh well 14 months to go b4 I can change again.

Thanks

I use a 16000mah battery backup made by isound. Got it from Amazon. Works really well and should keep you charged up for 4t days or so?

If you turn off bluethooth, 4G, wifi, and 3G the phone will last several days on a single charge (depending on how much you're using it/leaving the screen on). I assume if you're out camping then you're not using it much. You can just turn on 3G for a few minutes whenever you need it.

OK so I went to switch to a 3g I am running aokp build 5 and I have 4 choices 3 use lte so I guess that's 4g, 1 says CDMA/evdo auto, guess that's 3g?

Verizon has a tower built on the edge of my company's employee parking lot. :( I once saw a technician working on it and chatted with him.
Apparently the back-up power system is only designed to last 8 hours, or when the diesel runs out. If the local utilities lose power beyond
8 hours, then the Verizon tower will have no power. (unless the back-up generator is refilled with diesel, but the Verizon tech said they do
not do that unless it's a life & death emergency, unless the storm has passed)

Correct
There is also a toggle for LTE in rom control, that makes it simple.

Ok so I went camping and ful;ly charged my seidio 3100 and the OEM battery.
Turned off 4G and WiFi. turned down brightness to almost nothing. Did a few texts during the day.
Started @ 6am, back at tent by 11pm, battery @ 15% went to sleep with spare a battery near unit. Woke up @ 330am was down to 4%. Turned off replaced with OEM and made until 230pm when I got home.
Not happy with battery life on this phone, wish I paid better attention to this fact before I bought it. Its been a hoot to root with ROMS.
I have 14 months until I can swap out again w/o full retail or until GNx no longer avail from VZW and try an insurance claim and see what they offer.
My 1st important item will be battery life on my next purchase, not really sure what the engineers were think when they designed the phone and a battery but obviously it was talk/standby time. Guess I'll have to buy some sort of external battery/charger to camp with.

That actually looks pretty cool. I do have one question. Do you know how much current it outputs? Hopefully it's somewhere between 1 mAh and 2 mAh. If it's less than 1 mAh then it will take too long to charge the phone.

Not sure of the current output, but it charged from 14% to 90% in about 30 to 45 minutes.

how is the signal where you are camping? I am on AOKP M1 with the stock battery, and i can consistantly go 17 hours on a charge with 2 hours screen on time on 2-3 bars of LTE.
SOMETHING is wrong with your phone. it is probably a rogue app keeping it awak.
use better battery stats from XDA and check your partial wakelocks. this will tell you what is keeping your phone awake and eating your battery.

10% in 4 hours is not right especially with a 3100mah battery.
screen on time is the biggest killer and then signal strength is second. put it in airplane mode or something, or use the toggle for data to turn data off, then just turn it on when you need it.

Signal is 1-2 bars. I don't check into Facebook and social media. I do some lite texting. Turn off WiFi and to 3g only. Little screen time.
